Inspiration for a contemporary bathroom remodel in Charlotte

Our clients had just purchased this house and had big dreams to make it their own. We started by taking out almost three thousand square feet of tile and replacing it with an updated wood look tile. That, along with new paint and trim made the biggest difference in brightening up the space and bringing it into the current style. This home’s largest project was the master bathroom. Renovating the worn master bath of this 1950’s contemporary ranch was a challenge, but the Renovisions team took the task in stride. The biggest design challenge was enlarging the bathroom while also creating a usable and functional sitting area adjacent to their master bedroom. A few of the design highlights included; the pocket door which created an unencumbered space in the bath, a larger sized shower with no door and a lineal drain with curbless shower entry, larger format porcelain tiles, a shower niche, heated floors with a programmable thermostat, and a one piece concealed trap skirted toilet. Clipping the corner wall upon entering the sitting room softened the shape of the room and ensured comfortable walking space through the hallway into the master bedroom. The homeowners particularly love the customizations of the stylish designed vanity which included ample space to store bath supplies in the full extension drawers and a bottom shelf for towels. The custom Benjamin Moore dark blue/grey colored cabinetry and framed mirror looks stunning with the Silestone’s ‘Pulsar’ quartz countertop and shelf pieces. They also loved the gray-blue muted marble tones of the 12”x24” shower wall field tile and chose a bright mosaic-look tile for the rear wall of the shower niche. Replacing the older windows provided more natural light into both the bathroom and sitting room spaces. With spa-worthy, on-trend, creative uses of space, this ‘Renovision’ was enjoyed and appreciated by these homeowners!

The narrow, small space in this Winnipeg bathroom was one of the projects biggest interior design challenges. Every element including fixtures, handles, color palette and flooring were chosen to accentuate the length of the bathroom. A narrow, elongated shower was designed so there was no need for a glass shower door. Custom built niches for shampoos and soaps, as well as a bench were installed. A unique channel drain system was designed it was all surrounded by specially selected tiles in the earth tone color palette. The end wall was constructed to allow for built in open shelving for storage and esthetic appeal. Cabinets were custom built for the narrow space and long handle pulls were chose to perpetuate the overall design.

AV Architects + Builders Location: Tysons, VA, USA The Home for Life project was customized around our client’s lifestyle so that he could enjoy the home for many years to come. Designed with empty nesters and baby boomers in mind, our custom design used a different approach to the disparity of square footage on each floor. The main level measures out at 2,300 square feet while the lower and upper levels of the home measure out at 1000 square feet each, respectively. The open floor plan of the main level features a master suite and master bath, personal office, kitchen and dining areas, and a two-car garage that opens to a mudroom and laundry room. The upper level features two generously sized en-suite bedrooms while the lower level features an extra guest room with a full bath and an exercise/rec room. The backyard offers 800 square feet of travertine patio with an elegant outdoor kitchen, while the front entry has a covered 300 square foot porch with custom landscape lighting. The biggest challenge of the project was dealing with the size of the lot, measuring only a ¼ acre. Because the majority of square footage was dedicated to the main floor, we had to make sure that the main rooms had plenty of natural lighting. Our solution was to place the public spaces (Great room and outdoor patio) facing south, and the more private spaces (Bedrooms) facing north. The common misconception with small homes is that they cannot factor in everything the homeowner wants. EnlargIing the island and adding cabinetry to delineate the office, bar and dining areas was a priority. This exciting ‘whole house’ project began when a couple contacted us while house shopping. They found a 1980s contemporary colonial in Delafield with a great wooded lot on Nagawicka Lake. The kitchen and bathrooms were outdated but it had plenty of space and potential. We toured the home, learned about their design style and dream for the new space. The goal of this project was to create a contemporary space that was interesting and unique. Above all, they wanted a home where they could entertain and make a future. At first, the couple thought they wanted to remodel only the kitchen and master suite. But after seeing Kowalske Kitchen & Bath’s design for transforming the entire house, they wanted to remodel it all. The couple purchased the home and hired us as the design-build-remodel contractor. First Floor Remodel The biggest transformation of this home is the first floor. The original entry was dark and closed off. By removing the dining room walls, we opened up the space for a grand entry into the kitchen and dining room. The open-concept kitchen features a large navy island, blue subway tile backsplash, bamboo wood shelves and fun lighting. On the first floor, we also turned a bathroom/sauna into a full bathroom and powder room. We were excited to give them a ‘wow’ powder room with a yellow penny tile wall, floating bamboo vanity and chic geometric cement tile floor. Second Floor Remodel The second floor remodel included a fireplace landing area, master suite, and turning an open loft area into a bedroom and bathroom. In the master suite, we removed a large whirlpool tub and reconfigured the bathroom/closet space. For a clean and classic look, the couple chose a black and white color pallet. We used subway tile on the walls in the large walk-in shower, a glass door with matte black finish, hexagon tile on the floor, a black vanity and quartz counters. Flooring, trim and doors were updated throughout the home for a cohesive look.

This, despite the fact that a luxurious tub was added and the footprint of the shower was extended. The ceiling soffits and a false angled wall were removed to give the illusion of more space and to bring in additional natural light from the existing skylights. The high gloss, wood-looking porcelain tile makes a bold statement. These tiles were installed wall-to-wall and floor-to-ceiling to create the biggest impact. Our clients for this remodel of a 100 year old home in San Francisco’s Liberty Hill neighborhood recently moved to San Francisco. The house they purchased was very stately and had great bones, but lacked a true master suite and had recently been remodeled in a slightly generic modern style. We helped them with projects throughout the house. Our biggest project was creating a true master suite out of two bedrooms and an existing bathroom. We created an open concept bathroom with custom gray lacquer wardrobes and shoe storage units with a dramatic slot skylight overhead. Access to the master bedroom is through this room. The clean lines of the bathroom are complimented by a very long wall hung vanity with a CaesarStone counter which flows into the walk-in shower and becomes the curb. A variety of tiles including locally fabricated tile from Heath Ceramics were carefully selected to create a warm and inviting, yet modern, feeling. Oak floors similar to those in the rest of the house were used throughout the master suite for continuity. By using the same tile on the back wall of the bathroom we were able to create a visual unity from the shower through the vanity and the water closet.
