This home is located on a one acre parcel of land near the banks of the Milwaukee River in the older established subdivision of Sleepy Hollow Estates in Mequon, Wisconsin. The inspiration for this Glen Cove Residence was to bring the desired by many, contemporary and modern lifestyle of a down town loft and establish it in a neighborhood in the suburbs amongst traditional style homes.
Sleepy Hollow Estates like many older established neighborhoods throughout the North shore and Westside communities of Milwaukee had great local architects such as John Randall McDonald and Russell Barr Williamson, who built contemporary master pieces amongst very traditional style homes. This created diversity in the style of homes in these neighborhoods which for the people living in them and the people just passing by, an experience of harmony and cultural lifestyle.
Unfortunately today, many new neighborhood developments lack harmony and cultural lifestyle and don’t allow for homes such as this Glen Cove Residence to be built. And for that matter many of the homes built by John Randall McDonald and Russell Barr Williamson back in the 1950’s. When driving through these new developments, one would experience beautiful traditional style homes, but all the homes tend to look the same. There is no diversity in the styles of homes thus these neighborhoods lack the harmony and a cultural life style for the people who live there or what people are looking for when buying a home that reflects their lifestyle. This Glen Cove Residence is an example that a contemporary home which offers a modern lifestyle that many desires can be established amongst traditional homes while blending in with the neighborhood.
Don’t be fooled by the flat roof of this home, building technology has come a long way since Frank Lloyd Wright! The roof system on this home is more energy efficient than most roof systems builders are putting on traditional homes today and it doesn’t leak! This Glen Cove Residence was built using all traditional building materials that you would see in homes being built in new developments today. There is a misconception out there that modern homes are expensive to build. That is not true! This Glen Cove Residence was built for roughly $130 per square foot which is the same price one would pay for a similar builder’s model traditional style home with the same upgrades.
This Glen Cove Residence consists of three bedrooms and three and one half baths. All bedrooms are located on second floor with laundry, guest bath and a master suite. Located between the first and second floors off of the landing is an office/den space. The first floor is open concept with the kitchen, dining and living areas located at the rear of the home with expansive windows allowing a great connection to back yard area and outdoors. On the back of the home is a covered deck area allowing for outdoor entertaining without the worry of the elements. The first floor also offers a powder room, mudroom and walk-in pantry off the kitchen area. From the mudroom there is access to an attached four car tandem garage. From the first floor to the finished basement is an open stair allowing the basement area to feel as part of the house and not just a basement? The basement consists of a main living area, game area with wet bar, exercise room, kids play room with 14’ ceilings, full bathroom and mechanical room with storage closets throughout.

Paying due respect to a vintage 1960’s modern house, this project renovated the original structure while opening its interior to a spacious addition to accommodate casual living spaces and additional bedrooms for the client’s growing family. The property is located 30 minutes by train from Grand Central Station, but the large trees and proximity to the Hudson River lend the setting a bucolic feel.

We converted what used to be this home’s master bedroom suite into a study and home office. We really enjoyed creating the built in book shelves for this study. These custom units feature open and adjustable shelving, and full roll out drawers for bottom storage. Connected to the study is a quiet home office and a powder room. Red oak hardwood floors run throughout the study and office.
This light and airy home in Chadds Ford, PA, was a custom home renovation for long-time clients that included the installation of red oak hardwood floors, the master bedroom, master bathroom, two powder rooms, living room, dining room, study, foyer and staircase. remodel included the removal of an existing deck, replacing it with a beautiful flagstone patio. Each of these spaces feature custom, architectural millwork and custom built-in cabinetry or shelving. A special showcase piece is the continuous, millwork throughout the 3-story staircase. The English-made wall tile is glazed in an iridescent light gray and, along with polished nickel fixtures, provides reflective shine and warmth to the space. A barrel vault ceiling pays homage to the ceiling of the original bathroom, and natural marble countertops and mosaic flooring add authenticity and traditional character. A soaking tub, walk-in shower with a sitting bench, and separate water closet completes this luxurious master bathroom.

Having worked with Riverside before on two previous home remodeling projects, this Lafayette couple came back a third time to renovate their master bathroom—paying us the highest compliment.
While the overall layout of the master bathroom still worked for this couple, they were looking to improve the utility of their space by replacing an unused bathtub with a spa-inspired glass-enclosed shower. Also important was updating the dated materials to reflect a more current style that made them feel good.
Design decisions started with painting the stark purple walls a ‘Mindful Gray’ by Sherwin Williams. Next, our clients chose a furniture-inspired dual vanity topped with a ‘Colonial White’ granite countertop. The zero-entry, glass enclosed shower features an elegant stainless steel linear drain, Delta dual shower heads, a purposeful shower niche, and Emser pebble tile floors. An added bonus: Corner space left from the removal of the tiny original shower was converted into a convenient linen closet for additional storage.

The husband's want for contemporary design with the wife's need for a relaxing spa environment inspired this master remodel.

A SOULFUL TRIBUTE

Step into an immersive exploration of Questlove’s career, influences, and contributions to art and music that is filled with significance and detail. A stunning piece of salvaged church architecture frames saintly images of people who influenced and inspired Questlove.
J Dilla, who Questlove has called “the greatest rap producer of all time,” is the saint of Mixology. Odetta is the saint of Spirituals. Amiri Baraka is the saint of Poetry. Late Roots manager, Richard Nichols, is the saint of Ecology and Growth, and Fela Kuti - the Godfather of Afro-Beat, is the saint of Musicianship.
Each detail in the room was selected for both it’s significance and aesthetics. A vintage optometrist machine reminds us to maintain our clarity and vision, player piano scrolls become inspirational wallpaper, and a KISS coffee mug nods to Questlove’s admitted childhood “obsession” with the band, and his controversial vote for them to be admitted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
“The opportunity to do a personal space for Questlove was a chance to pay tribute someone who has shaped generations of music. I spent weeks researching Questlove’s career and influences - pouring over old interviews, watching and listening to performances… in the hope I would get close to ‘the roots’ of his personal journey and create something that he would love.” - Kyla
Design Deep Dive King of Hearts pillow, custom sign created from Detroit road signs, gallery wall of Roots albums, vintage optometrist machine, wallpaper made from piano scrolls with poetic lyrics, travelling trunk, jazz-age violin case that holds a whiskey bottle, collection of Kiss memorabilia

The steam shower has a built-in shower bench clad in travertine marble. The bench top is granite that matches the countertops, soap niche sill, etc. The electric floor heat is carried up to warm the shower bench. The handheld shower sprayer is conveniently located by the shower bench for shaving and a splash of cold water during a nice long steam. Coming home to this master bathroom is like paying a visit to the spa.

This bathroom looks very bright and spacious, doesn't it? The bathroom is lit by several miniature ceiling-mounted lamps. Pay attention to the large number of glass, polished and mirrored surfaces that not only add shine to the interior, but also visually expand the room. The dominant color here is white, which perfectly reflects the light emitted by the fixtures, also making the room bright and spacious.

The owners of this colonial-style house wanted to renovate their home to increase space and improve flow. We built a two-story addition that included a dining room and bar on the first floor (off of the family room) and a new master bathroom (creating a master suite).

A diamond in the rough was polished to a new brilliance in this remodel. Moving the kitchen to be front and center of everything was the key to this remodel. Carrying the motif of less is more, this remodel emphasized the qualities this Parisian-styled home had with a modern open floor plan. Working through different design studies with the client, we identified the optimum layout and created space for an additional bedroom. Fusing old world details with contemporary living, we ensured the rehabilitation pays homage to its original detailing while expressing a bold narrative, delicately balanced within the original structural framework. Careful detailing of the structural elements ensured the work could proceed without affecting the unit below. Completed in 2014, this home now offers its young family the full urban experience of stylish San Francisco living.
