This cozy white traditional kitchen was redesigned to provide an open concept feel to the dining area. The dark wood ceiling beams, clear glass cabinet doors, open plate shelves, Bianco Sardo granite countertops and white subway tile backsplash unite the quaint space.

This custom vanity features floating shelves. The top shelf is crafted to look like industrial concrete, while the bottom is artisan made to look like wood. Each counter is 6” thick, making a bold statement. Both shelves use a matte finish to protect the surfaces. Tom Manitou - Manitou Photography

The 2nd story master bedroom and bath need sun protection to make the rooms more comfortable without using curtains or drapes which would block the view. Bracketed arbors where installed to match the style of the ground level sun protection.

Bedroom - small modern guest medium tone wood floor and brown floor bedroom idea in Austin with beige walls and no fireplace

The master bedroom opens onto a southern balcony whose overhang protects from the sun. A white fabric curtain preserves privacy while offering a soft tactile quality to the otherwise harder surfaces. The plain sliced walnut headboard serves also as a dresser at the open master closet. Winquist Photography, Matt Winquist

The cedar tub relates to the cedar deck, benches and beam screens. This view is from the door of the ADU looking out into the space. The greenhouse like material we used on the fence acts as a changing art piece where the shadows and lights interact with it. I designed it to be modern Shoji like screens.

The Johnson-Thompson house is the oldest house in Winchester, MA, dating back to the early 1700s. The addition and renovation expanded the structure and added three full bathrooms including a spacious two-story master bathroom, as well as an additional bedroom for the daughter. The kitchen was moved and expanded into a large open concept kitchen and family room, creating additional mud-room and laundry space. But with all the new improvements, the original historic fabric and details remain. The moldings are copied from original pieces, salvaged bricks make up the kitchen backsplash. Wood from the barn was reclaimed to make sliding barn doors. The wood fireplace mantels were carefully restored and original beams are exposed throughout the house. It's a wonderful example of modern living and historic preservation. Eric Roth
