This client is in the beauty industry, so – in additional to great style – she has more beauty products than most people do. Before the renovation, there were products all over the counters and in temporary roll-in shelving units that got wheeled into the bathroom.
It was time for a change.
Design objectives:
-Add tons of storage
-Feature blingy, reflective materials
-Improve lighting
-Omit unused built-in tub
-Create a large luxurious shower
-Include large mirrors to the ceiling
THE REMODEL
With the right storage solutions, a bathroom loaded with products and gadgets can look virtually empty. Elegance and order contribute to living life artfully.
Design challenges:
-Standard vanities don’t offer much storage
-The existing window was in an ideal spot for a shower
-The client prefers large mirrors, so we needed an alternative to medicine cabinets
Design solutions:
-Replace the existing window with a waterproof privacy window
-Create dresser-style vanities with u-shaped drawers for maximum storage
-Include a tall cabinet with roll-out shelves for maximum storage and organization
THE RENEWED SPACE
Beauty products and daily needs are organized and out of the way – out of sight but easy to access. With a creative, modern palette of colors, patterns and textures, the bathroom’s aura is inviting, relaxing and luxurious.

This impressive detached building is located in the heart of the bustling Dundas West strip, and presents a unique opportunity for creative live + work space.
Designed by Kohn Shnier Architects, the building was completed in 2008 and has been owner-occupied ever since. Modern steel and concrete construction enable clear spans throughout, and the virtual elimination of bulkheads. The main floor features a dynamic retail space, that connects to a lower level with high ceilings – perfect as a workshop, atelier or as an extension of the retail.
Upstairs, a spacious loft-like apartment is spread over 2 floors. The mainfloor includes a decadent chef’s kitchen finished in Corian, with a large eat-at island. The combined living & dining rooms connect with a large south-facing terrace with exceptional natural light and neighbourhood views. Upstairs, the master bathroom features abundant built-in closets, together with a generous ensuite bathroom. A second open space is presently used as a studio, but is easily converted to a closed 2nd bedroom.
Parking is provided at the rear of the building, and the rooftop functions as a green roof. The finest materials have been used in this very special building, from anodized aluminium windows paired with black manganese brick, to high quality appliances and dual furnaces to provide adequate heating and fire separation between the retail and residential units. This master bath was previously a logistical nightmare with virtually no space in the most important areas: the shower and the water closet. We moved some walls to open the space to what’s now a couple’s dream bathroom with plenty of space to do everything they desire in comfort.

Designed as a country retreat for a young couple from New York City, this compact project plays with the idea of a modern cabin. Containing 3 bedrooms and 2 full bathrooms in under 2,000 sqft, the house exploits the use of glass and outdoors rooms to expand its virtual space and connection to nature.
The aesthetics of the house reflect the nature of its owners; while very modest and private on the outside, it is full of light and openness on the inside.
The project's interior design creates a youthful and relaxed atmosphere, while maintaining a timelessness and simplicity appropriate to its New England heritage.
