Envision a sleek modern home in Prospect, Longmont, that fits perfectly into its neighborhood. Confidence Drive is a family haven blending clean shapes with warm materials, creating a space that's contemporary yet cozy for everyday living.
A family of four hired us in 2017 for a home with modern flair – think flat roofs with a curved breezeway, stone and wood touches, and an extra unit above the garage for flexibility.
Tough community rules can limit creativity, but we met them head-on, crafting a design that's innovative while staying true to guidelines for a smooth approval and build.
The core mixes flat and curved roofs for visual pop, with stone, stucco, and wood adding texture and warmth. It's a design that feels fresh and connected.
Built with modern methods for strength and style, using durable materials that handle Colorado weather while keeping the look timeless and inviting.
Roomy inside with four bedrooms and baths, clean lines flow throughout, making it easy for family time and relaxation in a unified space.
Completed in 2018, Confidence Drive is a modern family gem that adds value with its ADU and design. It's a home full of warmth, function, and neighborhood harmony, built for lasting joy.

Set inside a circle of 100-year-old maple and oak trees, while complimenting the main home’s architecture, these ‘tree houses’ give shelter, space for imagination & safe play outdoors for twins. Mimicking the trees’ height and scale, and mirrored in each of their designs, these two 6 foot square base by 14 foot tall twin play structures allow for each child to have its own personal space, yet are connected at the center swings.
These unique treehouses have been built with sustainable sourcing and upcycled construction methods. When Martine Ilana, Principal designer of Temescal, considered what a ‘treehouse’ would look like for her twins, immediately it’s ideation was focused on keeping the integrity of the forest and problem solving how to use as many repurposed and sustainable materials as possible.
Accessing the incredible selection of salvage materials from a salvage yard in Detroit, Temescal was able to source non-toxic, and structurally sound woods to build the structure itself.
Healthy building materials include: Metal Roofing and Water based Low VOC paints. A slatted exterior structure was designed to create a rain screen and in addition complement the Main home’s exterior design. Designed with an end of life intention for longevity and a easy means to pull apart these structures apart once the children are older, the foundations can be used for a future ADU.
The slide posed the largest problem to source as recycled plastic slides are not made available to residential projects by US based manufactures and repurposed from Facebook marketplace hit many dead ends. Ultimately, she chose to use a HDPE high density polyurethane plastic slide that would allow for its material to be recycled once at the end of this life.
Every detail, both in their exterior and interior, of these upcycled treehouses was considered with care and an artistic touch that enhances the landscape and forest surrounding them.

With stunning views of the Annisquam River, this beautiful first period home was constructed in 1690 for Nathanial Harraden, sailing master of the USS Constitution. It is believed to be the oldest remaining house in this neighborhood of Gloucester. Our extensive historic restoration preserved the integrity and historic details of the original structure, which had been altered significantly over time. Deteriorated structural elements were repaired or rebuilt, and historic elements including beams were revealed. A bright new kitchen and bathrooms provide a functional layout suited for modern living, and use authentic natural materials that will patina and weather in harmony with the rest of the home. The new island counter was hewn from a large decaying tree on the site, and hand-painted marble tiles adorn the backsplash. New cabinetry was hand-crafted using methods authentic to the time. We preserved the kitchen’s existing brick floor, which originally provided a durable surface for milking animals inside during cold winter months. Using authentic materials and craftsmanship of the era, this special house celebrates its historic character and embraces modern updates that will welcome home generations to come.

Gulf-Front Grandeur
Private Residence / Alys Beach, Florida
Architect: Khoury & Vogt Architects
Builder: Hufham Farris Construction
---
This one-of-a-kind Gulf-front residence in the New Urbanism community of Alys Beach, Florida, is truly a stunning piece of architecture matched only by its views. E. F. San Juan worked with the Alys Beach Town Planners at Khoury & Vogt Architects and the building team at Hufham Farris Construction on this challenging and fulfilling project.
We supplied character white oak interior boxed beams and stair parts. We also furnished all of the interior trim and paneling. The exterior products we created include ipe shutters, gates, fascia and soffit, handrails, and newels (balcony), ceilings, and wall paneling, as well as custom columns and arched cased openings on the balconies. In addition, we worked with our trusted partners at Loewen to provide windows and Loewen LiftSlide doors.
Challenges:
This was the homeowners’ third residence in the area for which we supplied products, and it was indeed a unique challenge. The client wanted as much of the exterior as possible to be weathered wood. This included the shutters, gates, fascia, soffit, handrails, balcony newels, massive columns, and arched openings mentioned above. The home’s Gulf-front location makes rot and weather damage genuine threats. Knowing that this home was to be built to last through the ages, we needed to select a wood species that was up for the task. It needed to not only look beautiful but also stand up to those elements over time.
Solution:
The E. F. San Juan team and the talented architects at KVA settled upon ipe (pronounced “eepay”) for this project. It is one of the only woods that will sink when placed in water (you would not want to make a boat out of ipe!). This species is also commonly known as ironwood because it is so dense, making it virtually rot-resistant, and therefore an excellent choice for the substantial pieces of millwork needed for this project.
However, ipe comes with its own challenges; its weight and density make it difficult to put through machines and glue. These factors also come into play for hinging when using ipe for a gate or door, which we did here. We used innovative joining methods to ensure that the gates and shutters had secondary and tertiary means of support with regard to the joinery. We believe the results speak for themselves!

7RR-Ecohome:
The design objective was to build a house for a couple recently married who both had kids from previous marriages. How to bridge two families together?
The design looks forward in terms of how people live today. The home is an experiment in transparency and solid form; removing borders and edges from outside to inside the house, and to really depict “flowing and endless space”. The house floor plan is derived by pushing and pulling the house’s form to maximize the backyard and minimize the public front yard while welcoming the sun in key rooms by rotating the house 45-degrees to true north. The angular form of the house is a result of the family’s program, the zoning rules, the lot’s attributes, and the sun’s path. We wanted to construct a house that is smart and efficient in terms of construction and energy, both in terms of the building and the user. We could tell a story of how the house is built in terms of the constructability, structure and enclosure, with a nod to Japanese wood construction in the method in which the siding is installed and the exposed interior beams are placed in the double height space. We engineered the house to be smart which not only looks modern but acts modern; every aspect of user control is simplified to a digital touch button, whether lights, shades, blinds, HVAC, communication, audio, video, or security. We developed a planning module based on a 6-foot square room size and a 6-foot wide connector called an interstitial space for hallways, bathrooms, stairs and mechanical, which keeps the rooms pure and uncluttered. The house is 6,200 SF of livable space, plus garage and basement gallery for a total of 9,200 SF. A large formal foyer celebrates the entry and opens up to the living, dining, kitchen and family rooms all focused on the rear garden. The east side of the second floor is the Master wing and a center bridge connects it to the kid’s wing on the west. Second floor terraces and sunscreens provide views and shade in this suburban setting. The playful mathematical grid of the house in the x, y and z axis also extends into the layout of the trees and hard-scapes, all centered on a suburban one-acre lot.
Many green attributes were designed into the home; Ipe wood sunscreens and window shades block out unwanted solar gain in summer, but allow winter sun in. Patio door and operable windows provide ample opportunity for natural ventilation throughout the open floor plan. Minimal windows on east and west sides to reduce heat loss in winter and unwanted gains in summer. Open floor plan and large window expanse reduces lighting demands and maximizes available daylight. Skylights provide natural light to the basement rooms. Durable, low-maintenance exterior materials include stone, ipe wood siding and decking, and concrete roof pavers. Design is based on a 2' planning grid to minimize construction waste. Basement foundation walls and slab are highly insulated. FSC-certified walnut wood flooring was used. Light colored concrete roof pavers to reduce cooling loads by as much as 15%. 2x6 framing allows for more insulation and energy savings. Super efficient windows have low-E argon gas filled units, and thermally insulated aluminum frames. Permeable brick and stone pavers reduce the site’s storm-water runoff. Countertops use recycled composite materials. Energy-Star rated furnaces and smart thermostats are located throughout the house to minimize duct runs and avoid energy loss. Energy-Star rated boiler that heats up both radiant floors and domestic hot water. Low-flow toilets and plumbing fixtures are used to conserve water usage. No VOC finish options and direct venting fireplaces maintain a high interior air quality. Smart home system controls lighting, HVAC, and shades to better manage energy use. Plumbing runs through interior walls reducing possibilities of heat loss and freezing problems. A large food pantry was placed next to kitchen to reduce trips to the grocery store. Home office reduces need for automobile transit and associated CO2 footprint. Plan allows for aging in place, with guest suite than can become the master suite, with no need to move as family members mature.

Computer numerical control or CNC machining is an automated manufacturing process used to make components of devices or appliances. It employs computer-aided software and codes to control complex machinery, including mills, grinders, lathes, and cutters. It is used to manufacture multiple parts from diverse raw materials such as aluminium, brass, acrylic, plastics, and wood.
It is a subtractive process in which a solid piece of material is carved into a 2D or 3D object of any shape or size. This enables the creation of prototypes for parts and finished products. It also enables automated mass production of parts such as fittings, housings, brackets, gears, fasteners, shafts, electrical contacts, and moulds using specific materials.
This process is a quick, safe, versatile, precise, and cost-effective production method. These advantages allow it to be used for various applications in industries ranging from healthcare and electronics to aerospace and the military. Moreover, it is used to create parts for several objects you use at home every day.
Here are 10 things in your house that you may not know are manufactured using CNC machining:
1. Kitchen Appliances
Several manufacturers employ CNC machines to create heavy-duty parts for durable kitchen appliances. Through pre-programmed software, the machine produces parts of different shapes, sizes, colours, and textures using a variety of materials like metals and plastic.
CNC-machined components of kitchen appliances include metal plates, covers, textured handles, pins, rings, and wires. These small but essential parts improve the utility of your everyday kitchen appliances such as the electric can opener, dishwasher, hand blender, grinder, and coffee brewing machine.
2. Electronic Devices
Components of electronic devices are usually small in size and have fine details and shapes that require precision machining. CNC machines offer the flexibility and efficiency to manufacture large and small parts of various shapes, sizes, and materials required to complete electronic appliances.
CNC machining enables accurate, computerized prototyping and the production of detailed, intricate, and sensitive parts from a wide range of metals. It can be used to produce parts such as connectors, housing, wires, heat sinks, semiconductors, and fixtures. It can also be used to create the chassis or the framework of various electronic appliances.
You can find CNC-machined parts in the following electronic home appliances:
- Laptops and Computers
- Mobile phones
- Cameras
- Television
- Speakers
- Keyboard
- Mouse
- Router
- Refrigerator
- Air conditioner
- Washing machine
- Fans, air purifiers, and humidifiers
- Robotic vacuum cleaners
- Remote control

Historic Victorian Reconstruction and Companion Residence
This project involved the reconstruction and restoration of a historic Victorian residence in Santa Barbara, California, along with the design and construction of a new companion residence carefully crafted to reflect the architectural character and detailing of the original home.
The project focused on preserving and celebrating the qualities that make Victorian architecture enduringly appealing: rich exterior detailing, proportioned massing, decorative trim elements, covered porches, and a strong relationship between the home and surrounding landscape. While modern building systems and construction methods were incorporated throughout the project, the design intent remained rooted in the craftsmanship and architectural traditions that defined the original residence.
Special attention was given to maintaining visual continuity between the historic structure and the new residence. Exterior materials, roof forms, window proportions, trim profiles, and architectural details were carefully coordinated to create a cohesive property that feels authentic to its historic context while meeting the needs of contemporary living.
The result is a property that honors the architectural heritage of Santa Barbara while demonstrating how thoughtful design and quality craftsmanship can successfully bridge historic character and modern construction.

Envision a modern farmhouse on Colorado acres, where plains meet mountains in every direction. Platteville Modern Farmhouse mixes classic charm with fresh design, creating a home that feels rooted in the land yet ready for tomorrow.
The family sought a space that echoed nearby farms, with balanced shapes, steep roofs, and a simple black-and-white look. It needed room for life inside and out, blending old and new for everyday ease.

Built with modern methods and strong elements, it's designed for lasting comfort in Colorado's outdoors.
Basement walks out to patio and yard with rec room and future bedrooms. Main floor flows from great room to wings with bedrooms, master suite, and garage. Bonus area above offers extra views for relaxation.

Living is easy in this impressive kitchen.
A true collaboration of the home owners and their designer. This masterful, original design has it all. The key to this successful design is its foundation of textural contrast and beauty of materials.
This kitchen reflects the warmth of Mediterranean kitchens while striking the perfect balance of textural finishes. The newly remodeled kitchen is a seamless addition to the remainder of this inspiring and carefully curated home. The palette of earthy neutrals combined with orange-reds, golds, and muted greens to add warmth and comfort. Every detail was carefully selected and quality crafted. Premium finishes and fixtures were meticulously chosen to compliment and reinforce the foundation of the design. Notice the custom dramatic hanging lights, under island lighting and recessed lights which provide the layering needed for the perfect illumination of this kitchen. Every aspect of this design was methodically thought out from the window treatment style and fabrics to the handsome hardware, backsplash, hardwood floor and lighting. From design concept to selections to completion no detail was over looked.
The perfect family zone where one can escape the rush of daily life, relax and catch up with family and friends. Everything about this kitchen says welcome. This space truly embraces the goal of the home owners to be the heart of the home.
