Our homeowner had dreamt about one day redoing her beyond outdated kitchen since they day her husband carried her over the threshold. Vinyl flooring used for a backsplash, dingy carpeting, laminate with no sheen left to speak of and mismatched cabinetry…. it was time to make it happen. A year’s worth of planning later, her time capsule became one dreamy kitchen. Functionality reigns supreme in this small, but efficient kitchen where every cabinet has a story to tell and a place to store it. Countertop space to the right of the stove was an added necessity for function and safety. The raised snack bar is perfect for day to day meals and the lowered countertop was a must for this petite baker. A new lighting plan includes recessed lights, under-cabinet and accent lights, while new lighting fixtures reflect the client’s sense of style. Dingy brick patterned carpet was removed making way for new hardwood floors toothed in from the dining room. An airy palette gained some weight with the use of larger details; the oversized hood, beefy turned posts, prominent apron front sink and a grouping of tall cabinets on the refrigerator wall. For this classic San Francisco William Wurster house, we complemented the iconic modernist architecture, urban landscape, and Bay views with contemporary silhouettes and a neutral color palette. We subtly incorporated the wife's love of all things equine and the husband's passion for sports into the interiors. The family enjoys entertaining, and the multi-level home features a gourmet kitchen, wine room, and ample areas for dining and relaxing. An elevator conveniently climbs to the top floor where a serene master suite awaits.

Azevedo Design renovated their client’s home from a compartmentalized 1970s design to one that highlights volume and light. The main living space is a long rectangle stretching from a front deck overlooking cypresses to a two level patio with a view of the bay. A light monitor illuminates the center dining area and adds to the subtle variety of ceiling heights. In the kitchen, custom oak cabinets wrap around a marble and stainless steel island with a section of glass floor revealing a wine cellar below. The original kitchen was a monument to the late 80s/early 90s, with cheap plastic-fronted appliances, boring cabinets, mismatched countertops, plus those diamond-shaped wall accents everyone had. Yuck! My redesign instead draws attention to the extra-large window and expansive counterspace.
