The “Cloud” as it was termed during design, was originally a three part brass room divider in the original home. We chose to powder coat one part an iridescent white and suspend it from the vaulted ceiling of the lounge. Two monorails flank the cloud with telescoping heads that shine light through the grid to cast interesting shadow patterns on the room below. The other two parts of the brass screen were re-purposed and redesigned as the exterior gate between driveway and breezeway. They too were powder coated and match the exterior colors of the home. REFLEXA is a kitchen in post-forming shiny brushed laminated available in six colours: WHITE, RED BORDEAUX, GEM, ACORN, TITANIUM and LIGHT BLUE; the horizontal border of the doors frame is in PVC profiles of matching colour. It is an particularly eye catching product both in terms of look as well as composition, thanks to the lightness of its shapes, volumes and colours, all this combined to technological appliances of exceptional structural and functional quality.

Repurposed pieces Before finishing the basement we helped this client redesign the upper three floors of the house. Custom cabinetry and new furnishings were installed in many of the rooms. So, for the basement we decided to repurpose items from the upper floors that had been replaced with new pieces. The tall metal shelves had been in the utility closet before custom cabinetry was installed. The guitar rack was one son's childhood dresser. Heavy duty casters were added to the base and a customized guitar rack was made to fit to the top. This transformed the dresser into a movable, functional piece with contemporary style.

Pianoforte is a musical term referring to the variations in volume or loudness. Inspired by our clients’ love of all things with keys, the residence interprets the masculine form as ‘loud’ and the play of light as ‘soft’. The site required a strong response to the very active 1st Avenue to the south while transparency and perforations soften the form along Oneida Street. The L-shaped plan addresses the active corner while providing protection to the rear outdoor landscape. The entry becomes a gateway into this secret garden. Light breathes life into the living space in the morning and pours into the kitchen from the southern clerestory above. Our client, who currently plays the organ at weekly services, has working organ pipes that surround the fireplace enclosure.
