With his surrounding neighbors all doing major exterior and interior remodeling, however, the owner decided it was time to renovate his property as well. The home’s signature space is a kitchen that combines both form and function. Custom-made dark and light cherry cabinets are topped by exotic granite countertops. Prairie-style windows, wide plank hard wood floors and a tumbled stone backsplash complete the Arts & Crafts design. Professional-grade appliances include a gas cooktop, double wall ovens and a large refrigerator/freezer with matching inset cabinet panels. The kitchen work triangle guarantees ultimate efficiency. Recessed lighting and a skylight assures adequate lighting in the space at all times.

Located in the Crenshaw Manor neighborhood of central Los Angeles with direct access to neighboring Culver City and downtown L.A. via the new Expo line. Space reconfiguration resulted in 3 spacious bedrooms and 2 full bathrooms. A neglected backyard in deep shade needed a redesign. Clean and usable garden was built full of shade tolerant perennials and shrubs. As this garden will mature in years to come it will provide owners with lush vegetation and plenty of room to entertain and play.

I gave the house a new look; it previously looked gloomy and neglected. I used high-quality materials, including special ones for plant care and to delay the reappearance of mold. With the right tools and my experience, I was able to finish washing it in two days, which helped my client keep costs low.

This beautiful secluded house and art studio, hand built by a Japanese Potter, has been given a new life as a writing studio for its owner. The building, having been neglected and uninhabited for some time, was in danger of being demolished. The owner’s recognition of the underlying spirit of the place, in what can only be described as a labor of love, worked with the designers and the artisans to bring this building back to life. The stone cylinder at the center of the building houses bathrooms and mechanical systems, allowing the remainder of the building to remain open. The new cedar posts, stair, custom cabinets and handcrafted sliding doors are among the details that were chosen to complement the restoration of the underlying building, ensuring a long life for this peaceful retreat.

Originally designed by Victoria architect, James Hull in 1892, this two-story Shingle-Style house had long been abandoned and neglected, until the current owner purchased the home in 2007. The house is an important resource in the history of Cuero, Texas. It is a distinctive, late Victorian residence that complements the various architectural styles found in the Terrell-Reuss National Register District in Cuero, Texas. The style of the house is based upon a Queen Anne floor plan, but has strong Shingle style elements and several Colonial Revival details that make it unique to Cuero and South Texas. The design for the house skillfully merged the complex geometries and numerous diverse materials into a consummate Victorian composition. Fisher Heck was commissioned to restore the house in 2009. Almost everything inside and outside the house, down to the studs, had to be rebuilt or refinished. All work was done in conjunction with the Secretary of Interior's Standards for Historic Restoration.

VICTORIAN LAKEFRONT BEFORE & AFTER This neglected Victorian on the waterfront in Hudson was a perfect example of a diamond in the rough. But its new owners recognized its potential and (lucky for us) we were hired to redesign the main floor. Everything was replaced, from the uneven and mismatched floor boards, to the dilapidated, rickety old staircase. Not to mention, new windows, sexy new hot water heaters imported from England., a new kitchen and main floor bathroom. The entire house was painted Moonshine by Benjamin Moore - a watery blue-grey colour which works perfectly with all the wood and white trim. The kitchen was gutted and reconfigured to optimize the fantastic water views allowing the owners to relax at their new island (with soapstone counters). The beautiful blue backsplash tiles make this traditional white kitchen anything but boring. And we painted the adjacent dining room ceiling the same deep blue colour to add impact. Our clients had travelled all over the world for work before returning to Montreal, and their art collection, geological artifacts, wool rugs and assortment of wood furniture (collected in Chile, Mexico and Arizona to name a few places) give this updated Victorian a lived-in, eclectic look. We added some unexpected lighting with a nod to the Victorian age throughout and the back room, once the exterior porch, is now a the perfect retreat to relax, hold book club meetings or just enjoy the views from the elegant new furniture or the newly reupholstered family heirloom bench.

Our client approached us while he was in the process of purchasing his ½ lot detached unit in Hermosa Beach. He was drawn to a design / build approach because although he has great design taste, as a busy professional he didn’t have the time or energy to manage every detail involved in a home remodel. The property had been used as a rental unit and was in need of TLC. By bringing us onto the project during the purchase we were able to help assess the true condition of the home. Built in 1976, the 894 sq. ft. home had extensive termite and dry rot damage from years of neglect. The project required us to reframe the home from the inside out. To design a space that your client will love you really need to spend time getting to know them. Our client enjoys entertaining small groups. He has a custom turntable and considers himself a mixologist. We opened up the space, space-planning for his custom turntable, to make it ideal for entertaining. The wood floor is reclaimed wood from manufacturing facilities. The reframing work also allowed us to make the roof a deck with an ocean view. The home is now a blend of the latest design trends and vintage elements and our client couldn’t be happier! The entry to a home is a great place to make a first impression. It is an important area that is often neglected and only considered for mere function. In the entry we designed an eclectic gallery wall which reflects the clients personality. The tray on the console table functions as a catchall for the essentials.

A family of passionate athletes and sports aficionados embarked on a remarkable endeavor alongside our team and Studio M Merge. Their vision? To breathe new life into their outdated mid-century modern home and neglected pool, resulting in the dramatic “Sports Enthusiasts’ Hideaway.” The transformative journey focused on opening the interior spaces out toward the beautiful gardens and amenities. The renewed house features expanded open-plan living areas, a new bedroom, and a reimagined primary bath. An attached ADU added a sports bar and a flexible office space that can double as a private guest bedroom. The outdoor spaces were brought to life with the addition of expansive decks, inviting patios, a horseshoe pit, a basketball half-court, refreshing plunge pools, and a lush sports lawn. A pool house artfully frames the view from the pool to the neighboring golf course. This family of five finds themselves immersed in their expanded home and experiential outdoor hideaway. Every element has been thoughtfully designed to cater to their favorite activities, providing a peaceful haven where they can fully indulge their shared passion for sports. For this historic apartment complex in Nashville’s Germantown neighborhood, we transformed a neglected courtyard into a warm, functional retreat for residents by first addressing major drainage issues, then redesigning the space to encourage gathering and relaxation. We preserved two mature cherry trees and turned cramped planters into shared garden beds filled with native plants. From there, we added stamped concrete walkways, patios, built-in seating, a fire pit, and ambient lighting to create a cozy, peaceful atmosphere that feels like an extension of home. The result is a tenfold increase in how usable the space is—a blend of rustic charm and natural textures that residents now enjoy daily, whether they’re reading under the trees, walking their dogs, or gathering around the fire.

Luxury Kitchen Designs The kitchen is one of the most used places in a home and it is also the most neglected by far. Working in a kitchen should not be a chore; it should be something you look forward to. Hence the need for luxury kitchen designs. Luxury kitchen designs are designs that elevate the look and feel of your kitchen. The following tips will ensure that your kitchen matches your needs too: Counter top: The counter top is very important and the material used for your counter top needs to be the best. Marble or granite counter tops are passé. Corian counter tops are the in thing in luxury. They are great looking and can be easily cleaned too. If you do not like Corian counter tops you can opt for a mix and match counter top design. You can have counter tops made of wood on one side and alternately you can have the other side made of marble. Whatever the material the end outcome should be one of luxury. Appliances: A luxury kitchen needs to have all the latest appliances. The microwave, the oven, the refrigerator, the chimney etc., are all the standard requirements, but over and above these, you should incorporate the latest technological breakthroughs in kitchen technology. Also the appliances should not be visible. It should be inside shelves and should be used only when needed. The kitchen design should be done in such a way that the wood panels hide all the appliances. Island: A luxury kitchen without an island is not a luxury kitchen at all. The island is the place where you and your family can have a quick snack or two. It is the place where you place the food for serving or for mixing drinks. If you have the space you can even have two islands in the kitchen. Lighting: Along with a luxury kitchen design, it is necessary to add some luxury kitchen lighting as well. Lighting a kitchen is an art in itself. You should have different types of lighting for different areas of the kitchen. You can have hanging lights over the island; you can have dim lights near the sink etc. The lighting will enhance the mood and also emphasize the design.
