What was once a neglected and awkward extension added through the TAMA 38 project has been thoughtfully reimagined as a dedicated formal dining area – now a true centerpiece of the home, designed for hosting and celebration.
At its heart stands a beautifully crafted, minimalist-style dining table with a natural wood finish. The table extends to nearly four meters, becoming the official gathering spot for festive family meals on weekends and holidays.
Above the table, three exquisite pendant lights – hand-blown glass pieces imported from Italy – provide a warm, sculptural presence that elevates the entire atmosphere.
By relocating the dining area from the original living room into this newly defined space, the revised layout allowed for a more spacious and functional living room and kitchen – while giving the dining zone the dignity and purpose it deserves.

First impressions count for a lot, and your front porch is your home's chance to shine. They are the ideal hospitality place where you can sip a drink in the evening with friends, but also the perfect spot to relax in the morning with a cup of coffee. Porches are often neglected as the renovators and builders often focus solely on the home's interior, but they are a great place to really bring your personal style out for everyone to see.

From old and stuffy to new, light and modern - the seeds of this iconic design existed in this old Queen Anne residence that had been neglected until the Mins purchased it. From there we transformed it into a modern living work of art that harkens back to the traditional detailing of the Victorian Age.

A neglected backyard in deep shade needed a redesign. Clean and usable garden was built full of shade tolerant perennials and shrubs. As this garden will mature in years to come it will provide owners with lush vegetation and plenty of room to entertain and play.

Located in Church Hill, Richmond’s oldest neighborhood, this very early 1900s Victorian had tons of historical details, but the house itself had been neglected (badly!). The home had two major renovation periods – one in 1950’s, and then again in the 1980s’s, which covered over or disrupted the original aesthetics of the house (think open ductwork, framing and drywall obscuring the beautiful mantels and moldings, and the hot water heater taking up valuable kitchen space). Our Piperbear team had to “undo” much before we could tackle the restoration of the historical features, while at the same time modernizing the layout.

The garden was a mess when I arrived to redesign it. Neglected chaos and an elderly couple who wanted a peaceful, place to relax in.

This beautiful secluded house and art studio, hand built by a Japanese Potter, has been given a new life as a writing studio for its owner. The building, having been neglected and uninhabited for some time, was in danger of being demolished. The owner’s recognition of the underlying spirit of the place, in what can only be described as a labor of love, worked with the designers and the artisans to bring this building back to life. The stone cylinder at the center of the building houses bathrooms and mechanical systems, allowing the remainder of the building to remain open. The new cedar posts, stair, custom cabinets and handcrafted sliding doors are among the details that were chosen to complement the restoration of the underlying building, ensuring a long life for this peaceful retreat.

This 1970’s split-level single-family home in an upscale Arlington neighborhood had been neglected for years. With his surrounding neighbors all doing major exterior and interior remodeling, however, the owner decided it was time to renovate his property as well.
The home’s signature space is a kitchen that combines both form and function. Custom-made dark and light cherry cabinets are topped by exotic granite countertops. Prairie-style windows, wide plank hard wood floors and a tumbled stone backsplash complete the Arts & Crafts design.
Professional-grade appliances include a gas cooktop, double wall ovens and a large refrigerator/freezer with matching inset cabinet panels. The kitchen work triangle guarantees ultimate efficiency. Recessed lighting and a skylight assures adequate lighting in the space at all times.

The Randolph flip is another successful project by an energetic client always looking to fix up a very uncared home and flip it to a lucky buyer. The end result is a very open clean house with many beautiful features. THis home had been neglected for years starting on the outside with very overgrown landscaping making it a very unfriendly looking home nobody would want to approach. We cleaned up the yard gave it some new bright siding. But the real magic happened on the inside by opening up the living room, kitchen and dining area creating a welcome and entertaining amenable space. We relocated the kitchen to give it a better flow and allowing for the kitchen to enlarge in size. Created a more friendly family room by refacing the fireplace in stone and giving everything a fresh look. Upstairs we expanded the master bedroom and gave it a beautiful master bathroom. Take a look and see the transformation!

The home's distinctive front-facing gable and steep rooflines are defining architectural features that contribute to its timeless English Cottage character. Through our renovation services, what was once a tired 1933 home with a monochromatic beige exterior, an overgrown yard, and a narrow, cracked driveway has been completely reimagined into a welcoming and beautifully restored residence. The exterior was refreshed with a timeless palette that highlights the home's Tudor Revival character, while the bold front door creates a warm focal point. The neglected landscape was transformed with new garden beds, stonework, pathways, and thoughtfully selected plantings that enhance the home's curb appeal year-round. A widened driveway and improved access to the lower-level suite provide both functionality and visual balance. The result is a dramatic transformation that respects the home's historic roots while creating a polished, inviting presence from the street.

Set among mature pine and willow trees, the Bow Bog Road Residence transforms a once-neglected property into a refined modern home that feels inseparable from its natural setting. The original structure was removed while the existing foundation was preserved, presenting a unique design challenge: how to create a contemporary residence that respected the site’s constraints while maximizing light, views, and connection to the surrounding landscape.
RWH Architects designed a modern post-and-beam home with a carefully integrated addition that expands the livable footprint while maintaining a modest, single-story profile. The home’s form follows the contours of the land, appearing grounded and intentional—almost as if it has always existed within the wooded setting.
Inside, exposed timber beams and tongue-and-groove ceilings bring warmth and craftsmanship to the open living spaces. Expansive floor-to-ceiling windows and clerestory glazing flood the interior with natural light while framing views of the ever-changing New England foliage. A dramatic stone fireplace anchors the great room, creating a sense of permanence and balance between natural materials and modern design.
The home is thoughtfully arranged for both comfort and flexibility, featuring a primary suite, guest suite, and two additional bedrooms. A sunroom serves as a transitional space between indoors and out, seamlessly connecting the living areas to the surrounding landscape. The custom kitchen introduces a darker wood palette, offering a rich contrast to the lighter finishes used throughout the home.
Sustainability was a core consideration in the design. The residence operates fully off-grid, utilizing geothermal heating and cooling, solar power, a private septic system, and a 1,000-foot well—delivering modern amenities while minimizing environmental impact.
The Bow Bog Road Residence reflects RWH Architects’ commitment to site-responsive design, craftsmanship, and sustainable living, resulting in a home that balances contemporary comfort with a deep connection to nature.
