We packed as much as we could into this small bathroom, loading it with all of the latest and greatest in bathroom technology. Outlets are hidden in the medicine cabinet and vanity, and the toilet features a bidet toilet seat with remote control. The tub features Kohler’s VibrAcoustic technology, which uses sound waves to relax your muscles. This cream chest of drawers was a really fun build. There were some fun details as well as a nice engineering challenge. My favorite detail is the steel outline around the bottom section of drawers. Next was the molding that surrounds the cabinet. It gives it a nice transitional feel. The engineering challenge was that stone vase on top of it. It weighed somewhere around 150 lbs. We always build everything so that it outlives us...so we constructed a steel webbing inside of the piece that would support the span across the top and transfer the load from the center down to the legs. This will prevent the cabinet from bowing over time. This custom chest of drawers was handmade in San Diego, California.

The owners of this home came to us with a plan to build a new high-performance home that physically and aesthetically fit on an infill lot in an old well-established neighborhood in Bellingham. The Craftsman exterior detailing, Scandinavian exterior color palette, and timber details help it blend into the older neighborhood. At the same time the clean modern interior allowed their artistic details and displayed artwork take center stage. We started working with the owners and the design team in the later stages of design, sharing our expertise with high-performance building strategies, custom timber details, and construction cost planning. Our team then seamlessly rolled into the construction phase of the project, working with the owners and Michelle, the interior designer until the home was complete. The owners can hardly believe the way it all came together to create a bright, comfortable, and friendly space that highlights their applied details and favorite pieces of art.
