The Brooke Residence ‘Addi- tion by Subtraction’ remodeling project was recognized with numerous regional and national awards and was selected for Fine Homebuilding’s Annual Issue on Houses.
This 1920’s Craftsman Bungalow had been poorly modified in the 70’s in an attempt to address poor energy performance with a scabbed on solarium. The design solution removed the solarium and completely reimagined the floor plan: The kitchen was relocated to the rear; the stairway was relocated to enhance function, and a better connection to the family room was created.

The client was an architect who was so good at rendering that he found a very good earning capacity fresh out of school and got stuck there. The little detached studio was for him to conduct his rendering business away from family activities.
The site was a wooded corner lot with numerous mature Oak trees and Sable palms. The plan managed to save almost all the trees. Vertical planes were the key elements in defining space, along with multiple horizontal roof planes. The fireplace and stairs were the main vertical forms around which to compose the horizontal planes. The house had a fire many years later and was subsequently demolished.

Building on the Stamford coastline is technically challenging and tricky. RAC’s experience in waterfront design came in very handy while developing this 3500 s.f. beach cottage. Our client wanted an open floor plan with room to entertain, as well as spaces to retreat. Numerous discussions over many months resulted in a well-thought-out custom designed modern home that will provide comfort and beauty for years to come.

The Duprey Residence was recognized with numerous regional and national design awards and was featured in American Bungalow and Old House Journal magazines.
This whole house remodel project took a dilapidated 1920’s home that had been originally constructed from a Sear’s Bungalow plan set and trans- formed it to a spectacular show piece of high Craftsman Bungalow style. The home’s basic plan layout was modified to a more efficient, centralized traffic flow from front to rear and in so doing allowed for additional func- tional spaces to be created all within the existing footprint.

The kitchen that opens to a small family and dining room in a Mid Century modern home built by a student of Eichler. This Eichler inspired home was completely renovated and restored to meet current structural, electrical, and energy efficiency codes as it was in serious disrepair when purchased as well as numerous and various design elements being inconsistent with the original architectural intent of the house from subsequent remodels.

Open Sesame! Unlocking the potential in this space involved removing walls around the original kitchen.
The new open floor plan was designed to include this large island, custom cabinetry, and a beverage bar. Glass pendant lighting and numerous windows help keep the space bright and airy.

Located in the Avenues of the heart of Salt Lake City, this craftsman style home leaves us astounded. Upon demolition of the existing home, this custom home was built to showcase what exactly Lane Myers Construction could deliver on when we are given numerous constraints. With a floor plan designed to open up what would have been considered a confined space, attention to tiny details and the custom finishes were just the cusp of what we took the time to create

Situated on the west slope of Mt. Baker Ridge, this remodel takes a contemporary view on traditional elements to maximize space, lightness and spectacular views of downtown Seattle and Puget Sound. We were approached by Vertical Construction Group to help a client bring their 1906 craftsman into the 21st century. The original home had many redeeming qualities that were unfortunately compromised by an early 2000’s renovation. This left the new homeowners with awkward and unusable spaces. After studying numerous space plans and roofline modifications, we were able to create quality interior and exterior spaces that reflected our client’s needs and design sensibilities. The resulting master suite, living space, roof deck(s) and re-invented kitchen are great examples of a successful collaboration between homeowner and design and build teams.
