When Irvine designer, Richard Bustos’ client decided to remodel his Orange County 4,900 square foot home into a contemporary space, he immediately thought of Cantoni. His main concern though was based on the assumption that our luxurious modern furnishings came with an equally luxurious price tag. It was only after a visit to our Irvine store, where the client and Richard connected that the client realized our extensive collection of furniture and accessories was well within his reach.
“Richard was very thorough and straight forward as far as pricing,” says the client. "I became very intrigued that he was able to offer high quality products that I was looking for within my budget.”
The next phases of the project involved looking over floor plans and discussing the client’s vision as far as design. The goal was to create a comfortable, yet stylish and modern layout for the client, his wife, and their three kids. In addition to creating a cozy and contemporary space, the client wanted his home to exude a tranquil atmosphere. Drawing most of his inspiration from Houzz, (the leading online platform for home remodeling and design) the client incorporated a Zen-like ambiance through the distressed greyish brown flooring, organic bamboo wall art, and with Richard’s help, earthy wall coverings, found in both the master bedroom and bathroom.
Over the span of approximately two years, Richard helped his client accomplish his vision by selecting pieces of modern furniture that possessed the right colors, earthy tones, and textures so as to complement the home’s pre-existing features.
The first room the duo tackled was the great room, and later continued furnishing the kitchen and master bedroom. Living up to its billing, the great room not only opened up to a breathtaking view of the Newport coast, it also was one great space. Richard decided that the best option to maximize the space would be to break the room into two separate yet distinct areas for living and dining.
While exploring our online collections, the client discovered the Jasper Shag rug in a bold and vibrant green. The grassy green rug paired with the sleek Italian made Montecarlo glass dining table added just the right amount of color and texture to compliment the natural beauty of the bamboo sculpture. The client happily adds, “I’m always receiving complements on the green rug!”
Once the duo had completed the dining area, they worked on furnishing the living area, and later added pieces like the classic Renoir bed to the master bedroom and Crescent Console to the kitchen, which adds both balance and sophistication. The living room, also known as the family room was the central area where Richard’s client and his family would spend quality time. As a fellow family man, Richard understood that that meant creating an inviting space with comfortable and durable pieces of furniture that still possessed a modern flare. The client loved the look and design of the Mercer sectional. With Cantoni’s ability to customize furniture, Richard was able to special order the sectional in a fabric that was both durable and aesthetically pleasing.
Selecting the color scheme for the living room was also greatly influenced by the client’s pre-existing artwork as well as unique distressed floors. Richard recommended adding dark pieces of furniture as seen in the Mercer sectional along with the Viera area rug. He explains, “The darker colors and contrast of the rug’s material worked really well with the distressed wood floor.” Furthermore, the comfortable American Leather Recliner, which was customized in red leather not only maximized the space, but also tied in the client’s picturesque artwork beautifully. The client adds gratefully, “Richard was extremely helpful with color; He was great at seeing if I was taking it too far or not enough.”
It is apparent that Richard and his client made a great team. With the client’s passion for great design and Richard’s design expertise, together they transformed the home into a modern sanctuary. Working with this particular client was a very rewarding experience for Richard. He adds, “My client and his family were so easy and fun to work with. Their enthusiasm, focus, and involvement are what helped me bring their ideas to life. I think we created a unique environment that their entire family can enjoy for many years to come.”

This unique contemporary home was carefully sited in a large meadow overlooking a magnificent brook that is a haven for wildlife. The open floor house plan connects to a granite terrace, which overlooks a 60' gunite lap pool. Ipe deck landings connect the home to the pool terrace and create a seamless visual connection to the preservation area beyond. Classic New England materials such as natural stone and grey granite are used in a contemporary pattern to tie into the materials used on the homes exterior.

Our clients knew they wanted to live in Wicker Park, within walking distance of everything the neighborhood has to offer. They found an 1890s cottage-style home on a great street and fell in love with its charm. Unfortunately, the house had fallen into a state of serious neglect and needed significant work.
Excited, but also a bit overwhelmed, our clients came to us for help with a gut renovation. We were able to guide them through the entire process from the start of demo through placement of the final decorative object. The process was fun and rewarding and, upon completion, our clients were left with a tailored and sophisticated home that is just as stylish as they are.

Overlooking the lovely green canopy of New York’s iconic Central Park, this penthouse terrace offers priceless views with peaceful places to sit, chat, dine, relax, and relish the color, texture, and space of the great outdoors, all underscored with the New York City skyline. A breathtaking space that constantly rewards those lucky enough to spend time there, it is the quintessential New York minute, but welcomes hours, days, and more.

We rolled up our sleeves to transform the kitchen of our client’s charming but aging home in Washington, DC. The original kitchen featured worn-out, dated cabinetry and a layout that was both inefficient and impractical for modern living.
To breathe new life into the space, we replaced the old cabinets with brighter, contemporary cabinetry, instantly opening up the kitchen and making it feel more welcoming. We also reimagined the entire layout to create a design that is not only visually appealing but also highly functional for everyday use.
One of the most impactful changes was removing an old half-closed window and replacing it with a larger, modern window. This single upgrade dramatically increased the amount of natural light in the kitchen, creating a brighter, airier atmosphere and offering beautiful views outside.
To tie the kitchen into the rest of the home, we replaced the outdated vinyl flooring with engineered wood, blending seamlessly with the existing flooring throughout the house and adding warmth and character.
As part of the renovation, we also updated the powder room located within the kitchen space, giving it a fresh, modern look to match the newly remodeled kitchen.
Seeing our client so pleased with the final result made the entire project even more rewarding. We’re proud to have turned an old, dark kitchen into a functional, light-filled, and stylish heart of the home.

Golden hour here at this 1940’s colonial that has been beautifully reimagined by its clever homeowners. Our design team sought to immerse this bold assertive structure in a native grasses heavy design featuring many coastal plain plants indigenous to this region. Animating, texturing and foregrounding with color and movement, this reactivated landscape looks like no other on this traditionally manicured, lawn-heavy street. Seedheads and silhouettes will continue to offer structure and interest through winter while rewarding non-migratory birds and wildlife with essential shelter and sustenance.

For this Rancho Palos Verdes Retreat Backyard project, the homeowners wanted to create an outdoor oasis that combines modern luxury with functional spaces for entertainment and relaxation. Concept completely transformed their backyard, designing a space that features a sleek pool surround, custom-built BBQ area, and ample seating zones. The pool deck, surrounded by stylish stone hardscaping, offers a clean and contemporary look that complements the bright, airy feel of the backyard. Artificial turf was installed to create a low-maintenance green area that stays lush year-round, while the outdoor kitchen, complete with high-end appliances and a bar area, is perfect for hosting family gatherings and parties.
This project was especially rewarding because the homeowners, long-time Rancho Palos Verdes residents, envisioned an outdoor space where they could unwind and entertain guests. Concept, known for its top-notch exterior remodels and hardscaping in Rancho Palos Verdes, used high-quality materials and expert craftsmanship to ensure the space will be enjoyed for years to come. Whether it’s the pool, BBQ, or comfortable seating areas, every aspect of this retreat reflects the homeowners’ desire for both luxury and convenience.

Completed in 2014, ONE Design worked closely with GB Architecture and Design to compliment this expressive example of balance and elegance. Refinished redwood siding salvaged from Hangar One at Moffett Field fused with the glass shaft that slices through the south facing façade — offer a unique interpretation of materialistic fusion.
With a cantilevered steel and concrete stairs and floating catwalk bridging the double height entryway, the naked and unapologetic structure welcomes the viewer to this spectacular residence. The challenging topography required a customized structural design to allow the expression to reveal itself and rewarded the result with sweeping vistas. Featured as part of the AIA San Francisco Living Home tours in 2014, this property is a testament to architectural vision and collaboration.

Deep Cove Renovation – Custom Craftsmanship in North Saanich
This custom full home renovation in Deep Cove, North Saanich brought together West Coast materials, thoughtful design, and a focus on comfort and detail. As part of our work in renovation projects across Victoria BC and the Saanich Peninsula, this home stands out as a beautiful example of craftsmanship tailored to both the client’s vision and the natural surroundings.
We had the pleasure of working with truly wonderful clients and architects, whose trust and collaboration made this project especially rewarding. Their clear vision and appreciation for quality materials helped shape a home that is both inviting and enduring.
A key highlight of this renovation is the use of clear mixed grain Douglas fir, featured in the custom-milled exterior siding, as well as the clear vertical grain interior window trim and integrated liner/casings. These details frame the Lowen aluminum-clad wood windows, selected not only for their timeless look but also for their energy-efficient performance.
To enhance both comfort and (thermal values), we constructed a double-stud wall cavity, which provided space for substantial insulation and created an effective sound barrier between interior/exterior Combined with the SIGA Majrex vapour control layer, this assembly contributes to a more comfortable and energy-conscious home.
Inside, the heart of the house is the custom kitchen by Pronautic Millwork, designed to match the home’s clean lines and natural finishes. Discreet concealed door hinges at the front entrance and in the bedroom maintain a seamless and modern aesthetic.
On the exterior, we installed cedar decking over an SBS torch-on waterproof membrane, offering durability and peace of mind, perfect for enjoying the Deep Cove landscape in all seasons.
Whether it’s renovations in Victoria BC, custom upgrades in North Saanich, or tailored home improvements across Vancouver Island, our goal is always to combine performance, craftsmanship, and care. This Deep Cove project is a true reflection of that philosophy.
