Our design vision for the pieces we designed and built for Prairie Architecture’s new space started with the reception desk. As the main focal point for their customers and clients when they are greeted we had to design a stately visual piece! The main feature of the reception desk utilized reclaimed Elm which was specified early on in the project paying homage to Winnipeg’s boulevards. Part of our overall concept was incorporating angular lines within the designs of the steel work. The folded steel helped create large flat planes presenting a beautiful contrast to the figured warm character of the Elm. The use of steel within our designs were to connect to PAI’s existing steel work tables as well as the steel in the heritage building. Details: 11′-10″ long x 3′ wide with 1-1/2″ solid Elm tops. The owner of an insurance office in Auburn Hills came to Horizon Interior Design looking to inject some new life into their office interiors to create an inviting space for guests and employees alike. They wanted to replace all the old carpeting, repaint the walls, incorporate new furniture and décor for the waiting conference rooms, and stay on brand with deep blues and yellow/gold accent colors. Ultimately, they wanted a space where clients would feel extremely comfortable as if they were in their own living room at home! To create a cozy yet modern feel to this commercial office while staying true to their brand, we selected contemporary carpeting in a dark navy and gray, painted the walls with a deep royal blue, and added pops of gold and yellow with beautiful wall art and décor. These changes completely transformed the look and feel of this commercial office, but we weren’t done yet! To create a super comfortable, welcoming, and warm waiting room and conference room, we added relaxing chairs in a range of fun patterns and table lamps for ambient lighting - all working seamlessly with our paint colors, décor, and wall art choices. Once apon a time I was a scary basement located in a congested section of Cambridge MA. My clients and I set out to create a new space inspired by France that could also double as a guest room when needed. Painting the existing wood joists and adding bead board in between the joists and painting any exposed pipes white celebrates the ceiling rather than trying to hide it keeps the much needed ceiling height. Italian furniture, books and antique rug gives this once basement a very European well travelled feel.
