Inspiration for a timeless bedroom remodel in New York with gray walls

This modern lake house is located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The residence overlooks a mountain lake with expansive mountain views beyond. The design ties the home to its surroundings and enhances the ability to experience both home and nature together. The entry level serves as the primary living space and is situated into three groupings; the Great Room, the Guest Suite and the Master Suite. A glass connector links the Master Suite, providing privacy and the opportunity for terrace and garden areas. Won a 2013 AIANC Design Award. Featured in the Austrian magazine, More Than Design. Peter Rymwid This lovely shared bath required a unique design solution. The goal was to improve the layout while re purposing the existing cabinets and shower doors while not moving the major fixtures. Introducing a raised corner section added interest and display space while separating the vanities. By relocating the dressing table we were able to provide 2 separate vanity areas. Pearl-like beads on the drawer and door fronts provided the inspiration for the penny glass floor tile detail. A Moravian Star pendant added whimsy while sconces provided additional lighting.

A growing family, a rambling Georgian estate. The question: how to imbue tradition with a fresh spirit? The charge was to maintain the idea of old school charm without the interior feeling just… old. An illustration could be found in picture molding (which we added, then painted to disappear into the walls) or a modern plaster sculpture teetering upon an old barrister bookcase.
