This remodel of a mid century gem is located in the town of Lincoln, MA a hot bed of modernist homes inspired by Gropius’ own house built nearby in the 1940’s. By the time the house was built, modernism had evolved from the Gropius era, to incorporate the rural vibe of Lincoln with spectacular exposed wooden beams and deep overhangs. The design rejects the traditional New England house with its enclosing wall and inward posture. When we started this project, opening up the kitchen to the surrounding space was not an option. Instead, the 10-foot ceilings gave us an opportunity to create a glamorous room with all of the amenities of an open floor plan. The beautiful sunny breakfast nook and adjacent formal dining offer plenty of seats for family and guests in this modern home. Our clients, none the less, love to sit at their new island for breakfast, keeping each other company while cooking, reading a new recipe or simply taking a well-deserved coffee break. The gorgeous custom cabinetry is a combination of horizontal grain walnut base and tall cabinets with glossy white upper cabinets that create an open feeling all the way up the walls. Caesarstone countertops and backsplash join together for a nearly seamless transition. The Subzero and Thermador appliances match the quality of the home and the cooks themselves! During excavation for this new modern home, large granite boulders rose to the surface from the primordial hillside. Instead of displacing these monoliths from the site from which they were created, they were arranged to define space. A circle of boulders stand guard around a custom built fire pit, providing protection from the wind while offering a place to climb or sit. The extended landscape view from the lawn is kept intact by the introduction of a ha-ha, a traditional landscape feature, that hides the productive garden and keeps it from breaking the view. Native and drought tolerant plantings hug the outer edges of the property for minimal use of irrigation and to visually blend into the surrounding hillside. This project also features a custom ipe bench with integrated lighting, waterjet address numbers with night lighting, and hardscape that complements the form and materiality of the architecture to create a harmonious transition into the horizontal plane. Dining room - mid-sized modern dining room idea in Houston with beige walls

When this suburban family decided to renovate their kitchen, they knew that they wanted a little more space. Advance Design worked together with the homeowner to design a kitchen that would work for a large family who loved to gather regularly and always ended up in the kitchen! So the project began with extending out an exterior wall to accommodate a larger island and more moving-around space between the island and the perimeter cabinetry. Style was important to the cook, who began collecting accessories and photos of the look she loved for months prior to the project design. She was drawn to the brightness of whites and grays, and the design accentuated this color palette brilliantly with the incorporation of a warm shade of brown woods that originated from a dining room table that was a family favorite. Classic gray and white cabinetry from Dura Supreme hits the mark creating a perfect balance between bright and subdued. Hints of gray appear in the bead board detail peeking just behind glass doors, and in the application of the handsome floating wood shelves between cabinets. White subway tile is made extra interesting with the application of dark gray grout lines causing it to be a subtle but noticeable detail worthy of attention. Suede quartz Silestone graces the countertops with a soft matte hint of color that contrasts nicely with the presence of white painted cabinetry finished smartly with the brightness of a milky white farm sink. Old melds nicely with new, as antique bronze accents are sprinkled throughout hardware and fixtures, and work together unassumingly with the sleekness of stainless steel appliances. The grace and timelessness of this sparkling new kitchen maintains the charm and character of a space that has seen generations past. After just completing a project for a client's second home, the house accidentally caught fire and most of the exisiting structure and furnishings was burned. This unfortunate episode allowed us an opportunity to create the dream home that our clients always wanted. After the fire, we were able to remodel an entirely new space including a wood celing with beams, venetian plaster walls, and wide plank white oak flooring. The installation although eclectic, reflects a mediterranean atmosphere filled with light and texture.

This is a library we built last year that became a centerpiece feature in "The Classical American House" book by Phillip James Dodd. We are also featured on the back cover. Asked to replicate and finish to match with new materials, we built this 16' high room using only the original Gothic arches that were existing. All other materials are new and finished to match. I was hired to update this condo, working around the existing countertops as they were something the owner didn't want to replace. I selected a paint color for the cabinetry, feeling like the cherry cabinets just didn't fit in this space, nor did they seem to be the right compliment to the existing granite. I hired Haven Finishing Studio to work their magic and transform the cabinets into what looks like a brand new kitchen! They did beautiful work!!! Removed the outdated backsplash and replaced it with a metallic back painted glass subway tile. Removed track lighting in the kitchen and living room and replaced with vintage industrial modern lighting. Inspiration for a mid-sized transitional enclosed carpeted family room remodel in Salt Lake City with white walls

This modern lake house is located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The residence overlooks a mountain lake with expansive mountain views beyond. The design ties the home to its surroundings and enhances the ability to experience both home and nature together. The entry level serves as the primary living space and is situated into three groupings; the Great Room, the Guest Suite and the Master Suite. A glass connector links the Master Suite, providing privacy and the opportunity for terrace and garden areas. Won a 2013 AIANC Design Award. Featured in the Austrian magazine, More Than Design. Featured in Carolina Home and Garden, Summer 2015.

This is the hallway bathroom, this bathroom is of standard size, 6'x9'. The design is of transitional style. The wall tiles are porcelain subway tiles sized 10"x3" with a distressed texture. The tub been a 5' long unit gave us an opportunity to build a little bench on the side, notice the extra tall shampoo niche that is aligned and centered between the casement windows. We used Carrara slab that matches the vanity to on the tub bench and in the shampoo niche to tie all the features together. The flooring is ceramic wood look tiles that matches the house flooring in color. To keep the bathroom feeling large the shower door used here is frameless sliding barn door.
