Making the most of indoor/outdoor entertaining and optimizing as much of its seaside-living environment as possible, this contemporary residence in Corona del Mar utilizes Western Window Systems’ Series 600 Multi-Slide Doors to create additional space for both the homeowners and their lucky guests. A key feature of the nearly 2,000-sq-foot home -- from Brandon Architects Inc. and Patterson Custom Homes -- can be found on the first floor, where Western’s signature retractable doors open to a stylish front terrace. Don’t let the awkward shape or size of your backyard hold you back from the luxury pool of your dreams. Instead, let us optimize your space as we did for this client. The linear layout of the backyard called for a unique concept that is also highly functional to maximize space.
Before the waterfalls were constructed, we poured a 90-degree vertical concrete wall that was fortified with boulders to ensure complete waterproofing and stability to protect the soil. Continuing the custom stone work, rising planters were created to also serve as additional seating on the lower tier. In addition, both the waterslide and spa were finished with a gorgeous 1x1 tile. Within the spa are dual, circular stonework shelves around the spa, one serving as a drink rest, and the other an arm rest. The pool’s beach entry of stunning stonework finishes this backyard ‘hideaway’.

Security cameras cover the entire perimeter of the home, and their pictures are easily viewed from anywhere in the world through an iPad app. An access-controlled gate allows the client to manage entry to the home even when away. All devices were inconspicuously placed, and custom Lutron drapes were installed to control daylight. We also staged multiple variations of light fixtures and bulbs to find the optimal combination to meet the client’s taste. Photography: Bruce Van Inwegen

This was a fascinating project for incredible clients. To optimize costs and timelines, our Montecito studio took the existing Craftsman style of the kitchen and transformed it into a more contemporary one. We reused the perimeter cabinets, repainted for a fresh look, and added new walnut cabinets for the island and the appliances wall. The solitary pendant for the kitchen island was the focal point of our design, leaving our clients with a beautiful and everlasting kitchen remodel.

Overlooking the Puget Sound, this 2,000 sf Pacific Northwest modern home effortlessly opens onto classic water views while optimizing privacy and Southern exposure with a private patio.
Our clients sought a poetically minimalist and practical retirement home infused with rhythm and geometry. With dramatic roof lines and a projecting great room that define its form, the architecture’s simplicity frames its dramatic site to incredible effect while the interior playfully loops the spacious traffic patterns of this 3 bedroom 2.5 bath.
