Security cameras cover the entire perimeter of the home, and their pictures are easily viewed from anywhere in the world through an iPad app. An access-controlled gate allows the client to manage entry to the home even when away. All devices were inconspicuously placed, and custom Lutron drapes were installed to control daylight. Optimized storage, navigation, usability and comfort for the primary suite and home office were the motivators for targeted renovations to this unique home. An existing closeted narrow attic staircase volumetrically took away space from the primary suite’s closet. SIA proposed a new feature spiral staircase, which now aesthetically speaks to a previous renovation’s architecturally distinctive metal bridge. The simplified closet room allowed for the installation of new functional closet cabinetry. In the attic, the staircase is now on one side of the room, and with the removal a non-loadbearing wall, the attic now provides space for an open, airy gym. In the primary suite bathroom, a new shower replaced an old bathtub. By tweaking the dimensions, a deeper footprint makes the shower feel more spacious while allowing for a more generous toilet area. A half wall with glass surrounds integrates shower storage and allows natural light to flood the once dark space.

Bathed in natural light, this inviting kitchen features a generous 72-inch copper undermount workstation sink by Rachiele, the heart of this culinary space. This sink sits flush with the light-toned granite countertop, harmonizing with the soft maple cabinetry for a seamless look. Equipped with a sleek black Waterstone faucets and coordinating accessories, the design marries classic warmth with modern amenities. The workstation is ingeniously outfitted with a dual tiered workstation, optimizing prep space and workflow. The overall aesthetic speaks to the simplicity and elegance of design.

These twin circular stairs and curved balcony speak pure elegance and transform the home’s foyer into an impressive architectural space that sets the tone for the rest of the house. Both staircases showcase black wrought-iron balusters, oak treads and oak stringers; all oak handrail custom components were optimized by our CNC machines to create the smooth and beautiful transitions. Templates were provided during the framing phase to make sure we had a perfect fit along the curved walls; it was definitively a collaborative effort between the client, project manager, and design/manufacturing team at Century Stair. Our client found Design Connection, Inc. through reading featured articles in local magazines for many years. Her home was 25 years old and never been updated. Their furniture and accessories were well past their prime. The brick fireplace, the focal point of the room, looked dark and dingy. Upon completion of our first interview with the client I realized her style was transitional and the facade of the fireplace would not work with her new furnishings as well as the golden oak paneling. We brought in our very talented faux painter to access the paneling about changing the color to a soft neutral glow and we completed the transformation in one a very short time.
