Every inch of the inside and outside living areas are reconceived in this full house and guest-house renovation in Berkeley. In the main house the entire floor plan is flipped to re-orient public and private areas, with the formerly small, chopped up spaces opened and integrated with their surroundings. The studio, previously a deteriorating garage, is transformed into a clean and cozy space with an outdoor area of its own. A palette of screen walls, corten steel, stucco and concrete connect the materials and forms of the two spaces. This bathroom is found in the basement of the house. With low ceilings and no windows, the designer was able to add some life to this room through his design. The double vanity is perfect for him and hers. The shower includes a steam unit for a perfect spa retreat in your own home. The tile flowing over to the ceiling brings in the whole room. The mirrors are electric mirrors which include great lighting and a tv inside the mirror itself! Overall, it's the perfect escape from a long day at work or just to simply relax in. The bed folds up on to the wall behind it between wardrobes, assisted by concealed hydraulic gas pumps requiring minimal effort by one person. Once the bed is folded up, sliding folding doors are drawn across it to align with the adjacent cupboards. Once closed, the entire wall appears to be a continuous wardrobe, with no hint of the bed behind, completely transforming the room. The bed has a ply base over aluminium framing and a carved wooden edge band all around.
