The opening from the bedroom to the addition was originally an exterior window that we widened. New built-in closets in the addition are easily accessed from the master bedroom. We framed the storage cabinets to look built-in. To break up a wall of storage, we added a window seat that is open underneath. The new circulation resulted from the addition encouraged the homeowner to rethink their interior spaces and renovate them with new paint, wallpaper and furniture. The owners worked with Stacy Wallace of Heart of James, an interior designer, to oversee this process. The existing house floors were not level. We replaced and sistered many joists as they had deteriorated over the 93 year age of the house. New white oak flooring covers both the addition and the affected sitting room and master bedroom.

This is a half-acre garden near the center of Towson, so it’s on the edge between urban and suburban. My dad, Wolfgang Oehme, designed the garden initially. After a change in ownership, I was asked to redesign much of the garden since it needed some help since it had been neglected. I designed and installed much of the planting that you see in the photos. I also redesigned the planting for the fish pond, butterfly garden in the rear, pollinator garden in the front, and I install annuals that fill the 9 pots at the front steps and rear deck and patio. The high end outdoor kitchen features a gas grill, an integrated vent hood, marine grade aluminum cabinets, custom concrete countertops and an outdoor TV. The pergola and privacy screens are a mix of cedar and steel and the flooring tiles are porcelain. Creating shade and privacy around much of the space, automatically limits access to natural light, a key part of the design was a well crafted lighting plan. While offering functionality and safety the lighting in this outdoor lounge also provides cohesion and a warm elegant ambience. Lighting fixtures include several up-down wall lights and a series of integrated LEDs in the pergola that reflect light from the decorative ceiling materials and structural I-beams.

This garden consists of garden planters above a parking garage next to a high rise condominium building with 195 residents. The building was designed by the famed architect Frank Gehry, and is situated in the Cross Keys development, which was created by the pioneering Rouse Company, who also created the famous town of Columbia, MD. I designed the plantings for four main planters and two smaller ones. And, every year I design and install annual displays in one bed and four pots. The plantings are pollinator friendly with flowering perennials and ornamental grasses. My dad had previously designed the plantings for this garden; most of which has been replaced.
