This feature wall was designed for Coa Del Mar, an upscale seafood restaurant with a focus on refined detail and atmosphere. At its center is a 30-foot parametric sailfish, designed to blur the line between sculpture and architecture. Uniquely, the framing was constructed directly from the parametric components—meaning the feature itself became the non-structural wall. Integrated lighting channels at the top and bottom were designed to accommodate the building’s AV systems, while the entire piece is finished with crushed abalone that captures and reflects light beautifully, adding depth and shimmer to the space

On Preston I was aiming for an architectural-language that resembled calligraphy or even better, a building composed of brush strokes. Envisioning Hokusai’s “The Wave”, my initial sketches were shaped like auburn ships. A wind blowing, I pushed and pulled the roof eaves spiraling them back into themselves as if a massive brush stroke loomed before me. A great wave crashing, only one of Hokusai’s, blues and white-silvers, the roof returning a solitude of barreled water. - Mario Romano - See more at: https://marioromano.squarespace.com/preston#sthash.F5hTfCMF.dpuf
