Apartment with an area of ​​90 sq. m. is located in the center of Voronezh, in the new residential complex “Solar Olympus”. The main drawback was a very impressive L-shaped and non-functional corridor with a window. By dividing it into several rooms, we gave the space the right shape, organize an entrance hall, a guest toilet and even a laundry room. This project has become our most famous installation—a stunning 33-foot curved stair-slide combination built entirely from solid black walnut, featuring 445 layers of cross-laminated hardwood and a spiral newel post that took eight months to construct in our shop. The homeowners had searched for eight years to find someone “crazy enough” to build their dream. When we completed it, one of Clyde’s trusted business partners—someone who’d seen him tackle countless unique projects—admitted he thought Clyde had lost his mind taking this one on. He genuinely didn’t believe we could pull it off. We did. And the homeowners? Still thrilled years later. Where Imagination Meets Reality But these slides aren’t just for private estates. We’ve installed a 24-foot hickory slide in an elementary school library just east of Dallas, where kids absolutely love it. And here’s something that will make you smile: We built the longest wood slide ever for a children’s hospital in Springfield, Illinois. Have you ever heard a child beg to go to the doctor? We’re pretty sure it happens in Springfield. That walnut slide stretches 45 feet long and 3 feet wide—spacious enough for three children to sit side-by-side or for an adult and child to slide together comfortably. We built it in one piece, filling an entire semi-trailer for transport. It lives in the hospital lobby, and no appointment is needed to experience it yourself. In Raleigh, North Carolina, we installed a 36-foot white oak slide in a custom home. The client loved it so much they ordered a second one—literally 15 minutes after we finished the installation. When Clyde returned to the office, there was already a check in the mailbox for slide number two. This 14,000-square-foot home now features 72 linear feet of curved white oak slide: one connecting the second floor to the main level, another linking the main floor to the finished basement. What a ride, indeed. Then there’s the curved stair-slide combination in Visalia, California—32 feet of knotty alder complemented by a hanging netted loft and climbing wall. Creative? Absolutely. Fun? Our customers live on a beautiful and quiet cul-de-sac in Falls Church. As the original owners of their home, they knew that eventually they would want to remodel their large unfinished basement. After enjoying their home for several years, they chose to partner with MOSS to take their space and create the basement of their dreams. They had many ideas and thoughts for what the space might look like, to which our team listened carefully, and used that inspiration to design and construct the ideal finished product for them. Our homeowners envisioned a space that could be multi-purpose for all ages to enjoy. The result is a cozy family room area with a massive central fireplace and television, a small bar with sink and dishwasher, a large guest bedroom and bathroom for long-term visitors, a private exercise room, and a generous entrance to the outdoor patio.

Acucraft Fireplaces partnered with Cabela's to design and build custom gas fireplaces for their stores all across the nation. Cabela's wanted to work with a manufacturer that could meet their specific requirements, including the ability to present several unique design options, create big flames, keep the glass very cool, and be able to supply them with fireplaces in stores worldwide.

Christine Wade from Reico Kitchen & Bath in Salem, VA, partnered with Dennis Roberts to design a transitional kitchen featuring Yorktowne Cabinetry in the Millgate door style with a White Icing finish. The kitchen also includes Cambria Praa Sands countertops, 3x9 Sonoma Aquarius tile with #20 Eggshell grout, and Frigidaire appliances. The clients shared, “We completely redesigned our kitchen and could not be happier with the results. Our Reico salesperson listened to our ideas and concerns and offered several design options. She helped us choose a layout that is both beautiful and functional, and a better fit than the original design. While the remodel was challenging at times, we are so glad we did it.” Christine explained, “The client wanted a desk in the kitchen for extra workspace during the week, but it wouldn’t fit in the layout. An existing house with several additions lacked coherence and connection to the large private yard. The homeowners asked us to re-envision the property to be both a cozy home for them and an inviting destination suitable for entertaining friends and family. Using our master plan design service, we re-imagined the entire house and land as a whole. This holistic approach led to an unexpected and beautiful re-ordering of the home integrated with the private yard. Large floor to ceiling glass walls are used to connect inside and outside rooms. Reclaimed wood beams, stone walls, and integral colored plaster curate an interior environment that is elevated yet relaxed.

We met the builders during the cabinetry phase and watching their final, thoughtful design details evolve was such full of over-the-top surprises like the unique valet-like storage in the entry and limestone fireplace! As soon as we saw their vision for the home, we knew our furnishings would be a great match as our design style celebrates handmade rugs, artisan handmade custom seating, old-meets-new art, and let's be honest -- we love to go big! They trusted us to do our thing on the entire main level and we enjoyed every minute. The load in took 3 full trucks and fortunately for us -- the homeowners fell in love with several pieces so our uninstall trip was significantly lighter. I think we were all a little emotional leaving this masterpiece but sooooo happy for the owners and just hoping we get invited to a Christmas party... Regarding the island, Jeffery notes it was initially a source of concern. “My wife wanted the island and I was worried it would feel cramped. But, IKD got it to feel perfect,” he says. Not only that, but the live edge walnut pass-through is Jeffrey’s favorite part of the design. “I bought it from a local sawmill and my daughter and I sanded it and oiled it together. The warmth of the wood and soft feel creates a nice contrast to our modern white IKEA kitchen. I also used a piece of ¼” walnut veneer plywood to back my island. It all matched beautifully. The island face cost me under $100,” he concludes. According to Jeffery, there are necessary things to remember with your IKEA kitchen remodel. He explains: “Check your order carefully. I had to source from three different IKEAs due to COVID closures — and I was always delivered wrong items. On one visit they tried to send me away without an entire cart load of merchandise. Thankfully I was meticulous about using the IKD plan and my online order to check each item and caught all the mistakes.” He also says to save your receipts. “IKEA marked down several section cabinet components and when I went in for a price adjustment they refunded me over $200,” he offers. From a design perspective, he also notes that “it pays to learn to scribe fillers and cabinet panels. Scribing gives a nice clean fit to your walls and ceilings, and it’s a simple concept you can learn from YouTube.” As you can see, it’s very possible to transform your current kitchen into a stunning IKEA kitchen. Mattern and Associates CONTRACTORS: Urban Design Build Studio PHOTOGRAPHER: Urban Design Build Studio DESCRIPTION: Project RE_ is a collaborative education, job training, research, and pre-fabrication facility with a mission to reuse materials, rebuild communities, and restore lives, located in an existing warehouse currently home to several other non-profits focused on waste reduction. The building was designed for deconstruction and incorporates examples of material reuse, with each building element being a marketable product or strategy built by the partner organizations who use the space. JURY COMMENTS: The jury was unclear as to how a building inside of another structure should be understood, but found many praiseworthy aspects including the attention to details, participation in the construction, and ability to disassemble and reassemble.

Apartment with an area of ​​90 sq. m. is located in the center of Voronezh, in the new residential complex “Solar Olympus”. The main drawback was a very impressive L-shaped and non-functional corridor with a window. By dividing it into several rooms, we gave the space the right shape, organize an entrance hall, a guest toilet and even a laundry room. There were also interesting solutions in the non-standard junction of the engineering board and porcelain stoneware. The scale and shape of the art object slightly knocked down the correct and verified lines in space, and the idea of ​​​​the neighborhood of recycled materials with noble ones (in particular, with leather upholstery of coffee tables and silver vintage modernist candlesticks) added irony, while maintaining its elegance.” The interior is filled with air and light, the pleasant shade of the walls goes to the ceiling, envelops and hugs, helps to relax after a hard day, and color accents cheer up and saturate with energy.
