Eichler Orange is a stunning expression of mid-century modern architecture. The vision in modernizing this historic Eichler home with a 21st-century makeover was to honor the work of Joseph Eichler and restore it to the 1964 icon of California modernism it once was. The clean aesthetics of this home features glass walls, post and beam, tongue and groove ceilings, and oversize porcelain tile floors throughout. The free-flowing indoor/outdoor floorplan is highlighted with a signature atrium, and all material selections were made to honor the time period. Custom cherry cabinets and warm slab walnut doors grace the interior. This home had significant structural termite damage with three-quarters of the framing needing replacement. Additionally, the original house did not come close to meeting the current seismic codes. During reconstruction, we upgraded the post and beam structure with seismic hold-downs and concealed fasteners. The house lacked energy efficiency due to its flat roof and did not meet California’s current Title 24 energy-efficient standards. While honoring its era, this fully renovated residence is now updated with today’s energy efficiencies, including all-aluminum dual-glazed windows and doors, new spray foam insulation atop the flat roof, and tankless water heaters. A new photovoltaic solar system was added. We abandoned the radiant floor heat and installed a new high-efficiency ductless heating and air units to each room. This increased the building’s performance and provided each room with its own thermostat and control. This system also allowed us to eliminate soffits and ductwork and maintain the exposed tongue and groove ceiling throughout the home. The living space next to the family and dining room was repurposed to relocate the washer and dryer and allowed space to add a third bathroom. The primary bathroom was also reconfigured for a larger layout. The sleek kitchen design includes frameless Crystal Cabinets, professional-grade Miele appliances, a large stainless steel Sub-Zero refrigerator/freezer, and a generous Caesarstone countertop workspace. In the bedroom, new dual-layer blackout curtains, wallpaper, and ceiling molding create a serene and stylish retreat. Premium bedding and white alabaster lamps add a touch of luxury and comfort. The bathroom renovation includes a custom vanity mirror, crystal twin vanity sconces, a new porcelain tile backsplash in a herringbone pattern, extra-large format shower tiles, and marble penny floor tiles. New brushed nickel plumbing fixtures complete the transformation, bringing a modern and elegant feel to the space.

All of the equipment works seamlessly with the URC TRC-1080 universal remote controller that DTV provided and programmed for the client so that it could perform all of his favorite functions. One of the great features of the easy-to-use TRC-1080 that worked particularly well for this gaming room installation is quick-connect Wi-Fi. DTV wasn‘t done yet. We supplied and installed a complete Lutron Radio RA-2 lighting control system, including Lutron RRD6CL dimmers in the basement. This allows the client to control his all lights from an app on his phone or the TRC-1080 remote control, or by asking Amazon Alexa to do it for him. Additionally, we programmed the system for full “scene” control, so if the client presses “Play Game” on his remote the TV, Sonos audio and gaming system will all turn on, and the lights will dim to 20%. A week after DTV Installations finished the work, the client called – not because of a problem but because he was so thrilled with the URC controller that he wanted two more, for his home theater and his family room. We were delighted to come back and set up the extra controllers, and he was delighted with the work done by DTV Installations.

To make this space feel more formal and elegant we started with a backdrop of a warm taupe paint color on the walls. For added dimension, we added a shimmery taupe wallpaper on the ceiling that beautifully reflected the light in this room. As the centerpiece for the room, we added a beautiful art-inspired large glass and gold chandelier. We selected a round dining room table to center this square room and provide more seating than a square or rectangular table. In addition, the finish of the dining table brought warmth to the room. We added beautiful custom upholstered dining chairs in a performance fabric with a contrasting fabric back. We grounded the room with a large area rug accentuated with our taupes, blues, and creams. Lastly, we added large modern wall art in dramatic shades of blue and highlighted with wall scones.

Renowned Cabinets When you hire Renowned Renovation you can rest assured that your cabinets are going to be a highlight. Our custom-built Renowned Cabinetry are hand-built and assembled in PA by skilled craftsman. These cabinets are hand-sanded twice and factory-finished. This means they are painted in a sealed factory setting. When they’re delivered to be installed there’s no odor or finishing that needs to be done onsite. The best past is that there’s no formaldehyde in the finishing. Plus, they come in any style, from tradition to modern styles. The cabinet color we selected for the mid-rise condo was Benjamin Moore Chalk with shaker style doors and drawers. We installed soft-close drawer glides and door hinges, and under-cabinet LED-puck lighting. The additional upgrades included a cutlery divider, spice pull, a magic corner (which is a storage cabinet) and docking drawer. These are all the amenities of the ideal modern kitchen, including a double-waste pull-out drawer for trash and recycling.
