This petite kitchen was previously closed off from the dining and living room. The compact size of the kitchen made it difficult for the client to host their large family gatherings. With the new design, the spaces were joined by removing the wall between the kitchen and dining room. The space of the kitchen was optimized by recessing items into adjacent walls. The refrigerator was recessed into the wall of the adjacent garage. The ovens, pantry, and appliance garage were recessed into the wall, borrowing a few square feet from the bedroom closet and living room. The finishes throughout the kitchen celebrate the clients love of travel and collection of keepsakes from around the world. The mosaic printed tiles on the backsplash and refrigerator wrap bring an eclectic mix of encaustic tile designs from around the world.

A new stairway with Sonoma fieldstone walls and bluestone steps provide access from the side of the residence down to the hot tub. A variety of shade/part shade plants brighten this part of the landscape. They include dwarf Plumbago, Polygala Petite Butterflies, Dianella tasmanica variegata and Daphne odor marginata. And now with site-appropriate plants and no lawn, a lower water bill for the homewoners. Full color Blue stone and small mexican pebbles replace the lawn and pathways while offering a contemporary transformation. A variety of low-water plants including succulents offer year-round appeal and interest throughout the seasons. Photos and Design © Eileen Kelly, Dig Your Garden Landscape Design

This two-toned custom kitchen was designed for our 5-foot client who loves to cook. Although the floorplan stayed the same, she dreamed of having an appropriate-sized cooktop, and top cabinets she could easily access.
We dropped the back wall toekick a few inches allowing her to safely reach and have better use of the burners. To the left, a small waterfall edge in creamy white Caesarstone quartz, transitions into a standard counter height. Below her cooktop, we have larger drawers for pots and pants and spice pull-outs as her cooking zone. As for the backsplash, our client really loved her travertine tile, we kept it and refilled the areas as needed in our new design.
We boosted our total countertop area with a custom-wrapped bookcase to the left of the sink. This also allowed us to bring the island forward. The island and hood are both in the color Miso, a slightly darker stain.
Everything turned out great! If only the fridge would have made it in time. We can thank the magic of photoshop for this back order shipment!

The sink area is bathed in natural light from a well-placed window, enhancing the workspace's brightness and openness.
The bronze-finished sconces mounted above the window not only provide additional illumination when needed but also harmonize beautifully with the kitchen's faucet and cabinet hardware. This cohesive use of bronze accents enhances the overall aesthetic, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. Incorporating multiple light sources, such as these sconces, is a key strategy in interior design to ensure a well-lit and balanced space.
