Because of the long wall and need to create interest, we customized a fireplace wall with loads of texture. We also had to space plan SUPER carefully in order to ensure that 6-8 could be seated in the dining space (per the homeowners' request).

During the planning phase we undertook a fairly major Value Engineering of the design to ensure that the project would be completed within the clients budget. The client identified a ‘Fords Garage’ style that they wanted to incorporate. They wanted an open, industrial feel, however, we wanted to ensure that the property felt more like a welcoming, home environment; not a commercial space. A Fords Garage typically has exposed beams, ductwork, lighting, conduits, etc. But this extent of an Industrial style is not ‘homely’. So we incorporated tongue and groove ceilings with beams, concrete colored tiled floors, and industrial style lighting fixtures. During construction the client designed the courtyard, which involved a large permit revision and we went through the full planning process to add that scope of work. The finished project is a gorgeous blend of industrial and contemporary home style.

A fully functional bootroom in this ski chalet provides a catch-all space for gear. The space is carefully planned for flow. Ski storage with work bench area as well as lockers with coffee station ensure everything is available in one spot. Put gloves and boots onto the dryers for a quicker return to the ski slopes.

This contemporary farmhouse is located on a scenic acreage in Greendale, BC. It features an open floor plan with room for hosting a large crowd, a large kitchen with double wall ovens, tons of counter space, a custom range hood and was designed to maximize natural light. Shed dormers with windows up high flood the living areas with daylight. The stairwells feature more windows to give them an open, airy feel, and custom black iron railings designed and crafted by a talented local blacksmith. The home is very energy efficient, featuring R32 ICF construction throughout, R60 spray foam in the roof, window coatings that minimize solar heat gain, an HRV system to ensure good air quality, and LED lighting throughout. A post-war, Glen Park house was dark and tiny but had good bones and imaginable city views. It was one of those “little boxes on the hillside”. Our design transformed and expanded it into a bright, open, and comfortable four bedroom townhouse with panoramic city views. A huge new sliding skylight/roof hatch above an open staircase illuminates and seamlessly connects the central living and circulation spaces. All bedrooms plus a family room/guest suite are oriented towards the rear and front of house, ensuring direct connection to the out of doors, and privacy from family gathering spaces. The home is modern but has touches of warm traditional styling, anticipating a family with kids, a couple who enjoy entertaining, and or folks who like hunkering down with a good book and a morning cup of coffee. Falcon House is located on Falcon Ridge Road, which winds along a steeply inclined ridge in a stretch of foothills within Carmel Valley in Monterey County. An old lichen covered barn and split rail, cedar fences characterize this area known as Markham Ranch, and contrast sharply with the preponderance of sprawling, large estate-style homes, many more at-home in the Italian countryside than any landscape of California. Designed for a young family, Falcon House responds to the family’s desire to live a more modest lifestyle, eschewing overt displays of extravagance for an intimate and deferential relation to nature. The 3,200-square-foot residence occupies a difficult portion of the northern slope of a hillside, overlooking a verdant valley and oriented toward Castle Rock in the distance. The steep terrain necessitated a compartmentalized plan capable of negotiating the gentle hillock at the center of the site. A corridor bridge spans two pieces of the house, uniting living and sleeping spaces and allowing an existing watercourse to flow essentially through the house unobstructed. Large panels of glass open the living spaces to the landscape, beneath the deep overhang of a butterfly roof. Operable clerestories placed high on the window-wall allow prevailing breezes to cool the interior spaces. The bedroom wing of the house hugs the hillside as it turns to the west, ensuring privacy from the main living spaces. The sense of seclusion and protection of this wing is reinforced by its lower roofline and its embedment into the hill. Initial resistance by neighboring homeowners has given way to appreciation, having seen the results of careful siting and a material and color palate sympathetic to the surrounding hillsides. The dwelling embodies an attitude of respect for the landscape, and through that perspective Falcon House has become as natural a part of its environment as the hawks flying overhead. 2008 AIA Orange County Chapter Merit Award

The book matched marble slab walls of this bathroom take center stage and are complimented by the use of mixed materials. Metal storage towers, a custom, painted vanity, brushed gold fixtures and cabinet hardware, and porcelain tile floors work in concert to create a truly one of a kind master bathroom.

Our Austin studio designed this gorgeous town home to reflect a quiet, tranquil aesthetic. We chose a neutral palette to create a seamless flow between spaces and added stylish furnishings, thoughtful decor, and striking artwork to create a cohesive home. We added a beautiful blue area rug in the living area that nicely complements the blue elements in the artwork. We ensured that our clients had enough shelving space to showcase their knickknacks, curios, books, and personal collections. In the kitchen, wooden cabinetry, a beautiful cascading island, and well-planned appliances make it a warm, functional space. We made sure that the spaces blended in with each other to create a harmonious home.

The kitchen of this home was a labor of love and everything was carefully planned and executed to ensure it was a work of art, in a sense. At the heart of it is the 10 foot wide by 4 foot deep White Oak island with plentiful room for 4 people to sit comfortably. They choose gray as the cabinet color, specifically Benjamin Moore Gray Owl. Pike wanted a color that wasn't too bold and would take away from the other elements of the space, but we also didn't want to just go with the easy choice, white. Gray cabinets are in trend right now and for good reason as we are sure many people go through that same logic we went through. The cabinetry was custom crafted in Charlotte and is all beaded inset. A cabinet front Thermador fridge can be found at the far right of this picture. Tying the whole space together is the mosaic backslash tile. The tile is visually stunning and brought all the color tones of the space into harmony.
