Planting under established trees can be daunting for homeowners. This area called for a more sedate planting design that would brighten the understory near the entry drive. Variegated Hosta and native ferns lightened the space with their bright green foliage and provide just enough textural difference to be interesting, but not overwhelming.

History, revived. An early 19th century Dutch farmstead, nestled in the hillside of Bucks County, Pennsylvania, offered a storied canvas on which to layer replicated additions and contemporary components. Endowed with an extensive art collection, the house and barn serve as a platform for aesthetic appreciation in all forms.

A downtown setting that meets the needs of the avid green thumb. The lounge set is made from the same material as a trampoline for maximum durability. The vertical planter on the stained slat wall allows for the owner to grow their own herbs and vegetables while living in the concrete jungle.

A closer look at this stone stair constructed with Tennessee Crab Orchard Flagstone slabs. Thick slabs were snap cut and carefully arranged to create this attractive walk to the water.

For this Boston-area former hunting lodge, featured in Outside the Not So Big House by Julie Moir Messervy and Sarah Susanka, JMMDS created a landscape design that anchors the house in the site and complements its Tuscan-inspired architectural update. An antique openwork wrought-iron gate provides access from the driveway to the courtyard and breaks up the solidity of the stone walls, crafted by an italian stonemason. The project was divided into three phases over the course of seven years. We were originally hired to re-design the master bath. Phase two was more significant; the garden and parlor levels of the house would be reconfigured to work more efficiently with their lifestyle. The kitchen would double in size and would include a back staircase leading to a cozy den/office and back garden for dining al fresco. The last, most recent phase would include an update to the guest room and a larger, more functional teenage suite. When you work with great clients, it is a pleasure to keep coming back!
