30’ X 80” slice of ocean front sand.
This site resides at an urban edge in transition, where a dense fabric of older, unremarkable structures must coexist with more contemporary dwellings.
The Clients, a married couple, required a house for themselves and occasional family guests.
The house is organized to allow for a visual connection with a very public Strand and Beach, while providing more private domains for entertaining and personal habitation.
Purposefully Orchestrated Experience
Opening the house to the sky and the ocean is the principal way that this house reveals its inner spatial experience.
A composition of articulated shapes organized over a solid base.
Exterior elevations are a composition of solid, rectilinear stucco elements that are strategically subtracted to reveal a contrasting, inner layer of sloping, cedar siding, glazed window walls and cantilevered deck platforms; all organized over a base of porcelain tile.

A view of the 'Champagne Terrace' and the 'Water-Wall' water feature. The old original area was a small brick patio with a difficult access across the narrow coping of the original spa. Relocating the spa provided a space for an elegant comfortable staircase up to this relaxing dining patio. The smooth stucco bench and trellis are a welcoming addition to this area. Down-lights are hidden in the trellis and illuminate the area at night. The landscape lighting transforms this yard into a magical wonderland in the evening.

This farmhouse style home was already lovely and inviting. We just added some finishing touches in the kitchen and expanded and enhanced the basement. In the kitchen we enlarged the center island so that it is now five-feet-wide. We rebuilt the sides, added the cross-back, “x”, design to each end and installed new fixtures. We also installed new counters and painted all the cabinetry. Already the center of the home’s everyday living and entertaining, there’s now even more space for gathering. We expanded the already finished basement to include a main room with kitchenet, a multi-purpose/guestroom with a murphy bed, full bathroom, and a home theatre. The COREtec vinyl flooring is waterproof and strong enough to take the beating of everyday use. In the main room, the ship lap walls and farmhouse lantern lighting coordinates beautifully with the vintage farmhouse tuxedo bathroom. Who needs to go out to the movies with a home theatre like this one? With tiered seating for six, featuring reclining chair on platforms, tray ceiling lighting and theatre sconces, this is the perfect spot for family movie night!

Canal Custom Builders transformed this backyard with a custom-built multi-level deck designed to expand the home's outdoor living space. The project included elevated deck construction, modern black aluminum railings, integrated stairs, and a lower entertainment platform. The finished design provides seamless access from the home while creating a durable and attractive space for relaxing and entertaining.

This breathtaking bathroom was designed to capture the essence of relaxation and luxury, featuring an open, spa-like atmosphere with a stunning oceanfront backdrop. Located in Clearwater and Tampa, this design maximizes natural light with floor-to-ceiling windows, offering a seamless connection to the coastal landscape. A freestanding soaking tub sits atop a raised marble platform, positioned perfectly for a tranquil bathing experience. The double vanity, complete with sleek white cabinetry and polished marble countertops, provides both elegance and functionality. A statement mosaic tile inlay on the floor adds depth and texture, complementing the high-end finishes. Large mirrors reflect the bright, airy ambiance, while modern light fixtures add a touch of contemporary sophistication. This space seamlessly blends coastal serenity with timeless luxury.

Our clients, an interior designer and her husband, asked Morpurgo Architects to design for their two-story contemporary home an entry portico that would complement and enhance their front entrance.
To arrive at the front door, our firm created a bridge that spans the lower-level entrance below. Steps leading to the entry are framed by pilaster columns, supporting a cantilevered canopy that provides shelter from the elements for both entrances.
In the rear of this beautifully landscaped property, Morpurgo Architects designed a deck that transitions from the house in a series of cascading steps and platforms to the patio and pool below.

This 21'x22' pentagonal shaped pool maximizes the swimmable space and still provides plenty of room for in pool lounging in this oddly cut backyard. This pool features a large sun ledge with a ColorVision Bubbler, and a lounge platform connected to a long bench. Three brass deck jets and deep end bench with step-out make this pool enjoyable for all ages. Upgraded finishes enhance this beautiful outdoor space. WetEdge Technologies, Luna Quartz, Martinique interior finish, 1x1 Lunada Bay, Tommy Bahama, Aogashima tile for waterline and trim tile, Grecian Noce Travertine coping.

This beautiful U-shaped staircase sits at the heart of this countryside retreat. Dark-stained oak treads and handrails pair with striking black metal balusters, while bright white risers provide crisp contrast throughout. The dramatic interplay between dark wood, black metal, and white creates a bold statement that transforms the entrance into a showcase for modern engineering and timeless materials.

This backyard project transformed an underused grass area into a spacious and functional outdoor living space with a new 17' × 19'7" pressure-treated wood deck.
The homeowners wanted a large, straightforward platform that would create more usable space for outdoor dining, entertaining, barbecuing, and enjoying the surrounding mature trees. The finished deck provides a strong visual connection between the home and backyard while offering plenty of room for flexible furniture arrangements and everyday family use.
The deck was constructed using pressure-treated lumber, selected for its durability, value, and suitability for Ontario’s changing seasonal conditions. Careful planning was required to establish the layout, footing locations, finished elevation, and clean transition along the rear of the home.
For this particular project, the homeowner chose to complete the deck without a step along the open edge. This was a project-specific design decision based on their preferred use and layout of the backyard.
Every home and property is different. Northlink can help homeowners explore customized deck layouts, stair configurations, railings, materials, sizes, and finishing details based on their space, priorities, and budget.
This Barrie deck project reflects our Build Better™ approach: thoughtful planning, quality craftsmanship, and a finished outdoor space designed around the way the homeowner wants to live.
