This vacation home was created for an avid saltwater fisherman and his family. As a coastal property, care was taken to capture breezes and views, encouraging inhabitants to slow down and soak in the ambiance. At the same time, the building is designed to withstand storms and the corrosive effects of salt air. Awareness of natural elements, including being kind to other inhabitants of the property, is evident in selections like turtle friendly exterior specialty LED lighting.
Careful compositions of color, material, opacity, and transparency create an exterior that is disciplined but playful. The building is layered in planes that accentuate shadow, forming a graceful backdrop to the palm trees, pool, and ocean beyond.
The local coral stone used on the exterior is also seen inside, thus reinforcing a sense of place. Pops of saturated color balance the soothing palette of materials, art, and furnishings, never distracting from the breathtaking setting. High light from clerestories washes across interior surfaces and opens up views to the sky. The luminous volumes are easy-going and simple, but contain a few surprises. In the primary bath, the architect and client created a unique pattern of custom handmade tile.

Lots of gorgeous travertine stone adorns the curved wall that conceals the rainfall shower behind the generous soaking tub. Wainscoting in the room is made of more natural travertine tile and is framed by travertine chair rail trim. The tile on the floor simulates the look of travertine in a high-quality rectangular ceramic tile laid out in a diagonal herringbone pattern.
Behind the tub, the walls of the huge, walk-in shower are covered to the ceiling with a durable, easy-to-clean travertine-look ceramic tile.
The generous vanity and graceful tub deck are made of Egyptian limestone. Ceiling height mirrors are surrounded by natural travertine trim, adding a sense of spacious luxury. The playful, shell-likel vessel sinks punctuate the room with colors from the sea.

The kitchen as the center of the home – that was something the whole family wanted. Relocated from Greece, they want to bring the same atmosphere in to Orange county. So there is no define space, simply casually positioned seating in a bar.
The owner want to cook while interacting with the family, right when you walk in to the house, you’re in the kitchen opens up to the outside with floor-to-ceiling windows. The pool reflects charm of the blue water
The furniture and fixtures is characteristic of the interior – the kitchen area looks correspondingly spacious, with integrated doors to the kids play room on the right, and pantry on the left.

After my clients bought a sweet 1920s classic California Spanish bungalow in the Rose Garden area of San Jose, they came to me for some design guidance. We toured the empty house and I asked them what their style direction was and what they were thinking of doing. The heavily ornate, dark wood moulding and trim is original to the house and I naturally assumed that they would want to keep them.
But I was thrilled when they identified themselves as modernists, liking clean lines and a lighter color palette. So we chose a strong white for all the dark trim and a warm neutral for the walls. With that canvas, we began layering on contemporary furnishings but with a sense of luxury that still feels traditional enough to sit in such an historic house.
Custom drapes in a plum-colored Kasmir fabric set the tone for the color palette in the living room. Sumptuous ripplefold panels hang from a ceiling mounted Architrac allowing the full height of the arched window to be enjoyed from inside. The fireplace received a coat of a slate blue color from Kelly Moore. A comfortable sofa with mid-century lines plays nicely with a custom ottoman and a custom rug from Dalyn. And finally, discreetly presiding over it all, the Re ceiling light from Visual Comfort offers a bit of elegance without being fussy.

We chose to go with a dining loft and underloft for sleeping. The dining table folds in and lowers to a coffee table height. This makes it easier to play our guitars and kick out feet up if we want more of a living room feel. Mitsubishi Mini split above feels so good and sounds so silent.
When this touring tiny house comes to 20 cities across the U.S., local homeowners and building pros will see what measured home performance can do for their own homes.

Nestled within the bustling heart of Manhattan's Seaport District, my latest project unfolded in the form of a kid's bedroom, reflecting both a playful spirit and thoughtful practicality. The client's love for travel and a shared vision for a space that grows with their child guided the creative process, transforming the room into a haven of warmth, comfort, and character.
The journey began with the selection of a twin-size daybed in off-white, a transitional piece that resonates with the room's flexibility. Perfect for lounging or sleepovers, this piece stands ready to evolve into a bed when the time is right. The side table, equipped with a handy charging port, offers the dual function of storage now and a nightstand later, reflecting the room's readiness to adapt to its occupant's changing needs.
Adding to the room's multifunctionality, the chosen console table can either grace the space in simplicity or rotate into an L-shaped desk. From craft time to study hours, it's a piece that speaks to the creativity and growth of the child. Paired with a velvet-upholstered chair, a fashionable yet unobtrusive addition, it brings a contrasting pop of color to balance the room's light palette.
The leather lounge chair and globe pouf introduce a casual feel, enhancing the room's welcoming ambiance. Inspired by the family's months-long travel experience, the global-themed pouf stands as a tangible reminder of adventures shared and the world waiting to be explored.
With the final touch of a well-positioned bookcase at the foot of the daybed sofa, organization and accessibility became part of the room's charm. The careful addition of lighting with gold, white, and rattan elements, along with a uniquely textured blue rug, brings the design together in a harmonious blend of style and personality.
This project, situated in one of New York's most vibrant neighborhoods, was more than just a room transformation; it was a labor of love. Building a space that can effortlessly transition with the child's growth, filled with memories and inspiration from family experiences, was a challenge embraced with enthusiasm. Their child's bedroom is not merely a room; it's a carefully curated environment where dreams take flight, comfort reigns, and the future holds endless possibilities.

Set just steps from iconic Dolores Park, this light-filled San Francisco home was transformed into a refined urban retreat that balances playful modernity with timeless sophistication. The design centers around clean lines, sculptural forms, and a palette that shifts gracefully from soft neutrals to rich, expressive tones. In the living spaces, layered textures and curated furnishings create an atmosphere that feels both polished and inviting. Warm wood elements ground the interiors, while thoughtful accents in saturated blues and greens introduce energy and visual rhythm to each room. The kitchen and dining areas embrace simplicity and flow, pairing minimalist cabinetry with bold stone surfaces and contemporary lighting for a look that’s effortlessly elevated.
Throughout the home, art-forward details and refined material choices lend a gallery-like calm without sacrificing comfort. Bedrooms take on a serene, tailored sensibility, offering a restful counterpoint to the vibrancy of the city just outside. The result is a residence that feels distinctly modern yet deeply livable—an elegant backdrop for everyday life in one of San Francisco’s most beloved neighborhoods.

At Native Edge Landscape, we believe that outdoor spaces are canvases for artistic expression and harmonious design. In one of our recent projects, we had the opportunity to create a breathtaking pergola that seamlessly blended with the surrounding environment while showcasing the unique artful taste of our clients. Join us as we explore the captivating details of this design and the meticulous craftsmanship that went into creating a truly remarkable outdoor space.
The Pergola: A Perfect Fusion of Steel and Cedar
The focal point of this project is undoubtedly the large pergola, which we carefully constructed from steel C-channel and rough cedar purlins. The combination of these materials resulted in a striking aesthetic that effortlessly marries strength and natural beauty. The warm tones of each play off one another and come alive in the sunlight, while the alternating basketweave layout of the slats offer even more visual interest as well as variation in the provided shade. The design concept was carefully planned to ensure the purlins fit snugly into the channel, cleverly concealing any visible fasteners. This attention to detail adds to the sleek and streamlined appearance of the pergola, elevating its visual appeal and rustic elegance.
Working in Harmony with Nature
One of the most remarkable aspects of this project is how the pergola and the clam shell-colored Trex deck were thoughtfully designed to complement and highlight the existing large red oak tree. Rather than overshadowing or competing with its natural beauty, the design gracefully worked around the tree, creating a harmonious coexistence between human craftsmanship and nature's elegance.
Mid-Century Modern Charm with an Artful Twist
While the overall design of the space exudes mid-century modern aesthetics, what truly makes this project stand out is the clients' unique and artful taste. Their personal touch can be seen in the selection of decor, furniture, and subtle embellishments that add character and personality to the space. The result is a stunning blend of timeless design principles and the clients' individual artistic expression, creating a truly one-of-a-kind outdoor sanctuary.
Craftsmanship that Inspires
Every element of this project, from the pergola's construction to the careful integration of existing natural features, is a testament to the exceptional craftsmanship of the Native Edge Landscape team. With an unwavering commitment to excellence, our designers and craftsmen brought the clients' vision to life, transforming their outdoor space into a work of art.
The large pergola in this project serves as a striking centerpiece, combining the remarkable simplicity of steel and cedar to create a visually striking structure that harmonizes with the surrounding environment. Through careful design and meticulous craftsmanship, we successfully incorporated the clients' artful taste, resulting in a space that reflects their unique style while embracing mid-century modern charm. At Native Edge Landscape, we take pride in creating outdoor spaces that are not only aesthetically stunning but also deeply personal and reflective of our clients' individuality.
If you're seeking to transform your own yard into a captivating art space, we invite you to contact Native Edge Landscape. Our team of experts is ready to bring your vision to life, combining artistry, sustainability, and conscientious craftsmanship to create an outdoor sanctuary that is truly extraordinary. Let us inspire and elevate your outdoor living experience today.

A variety of interesting textures and staggered bloom times makes this deer-resistant landscape interesting year-round.
This active family needed to overhaul this large property but didn't know where to start. "It's like three acres of boring dirt and weeds", said my client. The steeply sloped property did indeed present unique challenges with ever-present voracious deer, the need for erosion control and bank stabilization, large areas that required planting while still considering water conservation, and the need for beautification and modernization to tie into the aesthetic of the newly renovated home. Concurrently, safety and access to all parts of the property were a consideration. Landscaping goals were accomplished through careful plant selection and judicious use of retaining walls in various styles throughout the property. Generous railroad tie steps were used on sloping side yards. The landscaped portions converge gracefully with the existing oak woodland. Children can play and hide in many fun spots, while my client's elderly grandmother can safely walk around.

The realized interior design of an apartment in the center of Kyiv, brings a tactile accent to the interior through the use of contrasting materials. Our vision was to go beyond visual aesthetics and create an atmosphere that immerses in sensations through touch.
The design's core is the harmony of textures, exemplified by the choice of clay-colored decorative plaster. Hand-molded bas-reliefs, serving as both visual art and tactile decoration, grace the living room and bedroom. Natural wood furniture complements this, creating a juxtaposition between the smoothness at the fingertips and the rough walls, reinforcing the connection to nature.
The color palette draws inspiration from the earthy tones of clay and sand, with warm wood elements instilling a sense of coziness. Ukrainian-manufactured furniture and decor introduce vibrant color accents, enhancing the overall depth of the space.
We used introduces thoughtful contrasts to prevent monotony, incorporating bold accent colors such as terracotta and graphite. These hues play a pivotal role, subtly highlighting different zones and contributing to a harmonious interplay of shades, infusing Luna with dynamism.

The Blanc Home
Nestled in the heart of Mumbai, this 660 sq.ft. residence designed by Studio Dhi is a seamless blend of modern elegance and everyday comfort. The interiors embrace a soft, muted palette enriched with textures, prints, and pops of colour. Abundant natural light filters through the home, accentuating curated furniture pieces and creating a warm, inviting atmosphere.
Lighting plays a pivotal role across all zones of the project, carefully layered to enhance both mood and spatial perception. The design language is contemporary modern, with subtle hints of European charm. Defined by clean lines, tactile surfaces, and a neutral base, the white shell becomes a canvas for thoughtful detailing and personality.
Each room carries a distinct identity while folding harmoniously into the larger narrative. The master bedroom exudes a warm, muted sophistication, while the mother’s bedroom is imbued with a feminine European touch—anchored in soft blues, blush pinks, and gentle greens. In the living room, a beige sofa grounds the space, complemented by fluted wall panelling and mirrored accents. A carved marble temple sits gracefully beside a mint-green console, set against a softly textured wallpaper backdrop.
What elevates the residence beyond a modern European aesthetic is the layered craftsmanship—bespoke wall detailing, custom-designed furniture, and finely executed finishes. Art infuses colour and character, indoor greens soften the interiors, and a thoughtful lighting strategy highlights every crafted element. Together, these details create a home that is elegant yet personal, contemporary yet timeless.

Not everyone would see the hidden beauty in the Yonkers property destined for the wrecking ball in 2000. But one family took the serious fixer-upper under their wing. Crumbling walls, overgrown maples (indeed, saplings were busting through the brick walls), and deer living in the basement was the state of affairs when Westover Landscape Design initially arrived on the scene. A year of intensive, meticulous, thoughtful renovation by the homeowner followed while the house was brought up to speed. When the last construction machine finally rumbled out, that’s when Robert Welsch and his crew began their odyssey.
The goal was to honor the newly restored relic and deliver it into the future with fitting surroundings. “We wanted to bring that treasure back to life,” Robert Welsch explains. Working closely with the homeowner as well as the city of Yonkers to guide the restoration, their first feat was to install a proper drainage system with catchments capable of keeping storm water from the massive roof flowing away. Before anything was visible on the surface, extensive work was accomplished underground. Meanwhile, a plan was drafted to honor the era of the house. Westover chose bluestone as the primary path material for its easy maintenance and simplicity when laying the swank configuration of pathways around the house and outward to an entertaining pavilion. By cleverly hemming the bluestone with period brick that echoes the building material for the house for continuity, the result is a smart and sophisticated finish to a promenade that constantly draws the family and their pets outdoors. Brick was also used to rebuild the walled gardens for the much-needed privacy in a close-knit Yonkers community. And a graceful wrought iron gate enhances the arrival experience. But walls and gates were not the only element to screen and reveal views—plant selection was critical.
Few landscapers would go the extra mile to find period perfect plants for a 19th Century restoration, but Robert Welsch saw the importance of authenticity in creating the mood. He repeated large trees—such as an exquisite London plane tree in the front yard—to balance the expression in the back. Recognizing the need for immediate stature, he selected a weeping willow to gain instant volume, giving the landscape a sense of deep roots. A weeping Camperdown elm adds sophisticated drama to the walled stroll gardens. Hydrangeas were incorporated for their billowy stature, easy maintenance, and long blooming season. Similarly, all the plants in residence play their part in the display that goes beyond the usual spring fling to extend throughout the growing season—offering visual interest even when they are not performing. From spring bulbs to autumn perennials, there is never a dull moment. Meanwhile, every step along the way was a collaboration working hand-in-hand with the homeowner and the city to make certain that the historic landmark status of the property was upheld and honored.
The result goes beyond a landscape that is just old faithful. It adds life to the picture, creating a jewel-like setting for the newly proud house. In a word, it is sublime. By planting wisely and using sustainable elements, the restored house and its surroundings are ready for the next generation and beyond. This Yonkers gem remains meticulously groomed under the watchful eye and skill of Westover Landscape Design’s team of gardeners—It’s a keeper.
