With plenty of room in the basement, we designed a full-service bar, equipped with a sink, dishwasher drawers, icemaker, beverage refrigerator and liquor storage. Framing was added over the bar to accentuate the shape of the bar and give the feeling of a floating bulkhead. A wall of glass mosaic was added to give texture and depth to the space, along with a leather upholstered overlay on the front of the bar. The counter tops are a combination of Quartz and Eucalyptus wood with poured resin over the top for protection. There is a lounge area with a projection TV and 84” wide screen with plenty of seating and storage for games. The other end of the basement hosts a ping pong table set aside for the serious players. The existing lighting was removed and a new lighting layout with fixtures were installed to address any activities that might be occurring in the various spaces. The end result is an incredible living space in the basement for both the teens and their friends, as well as the adults to enjoy games on the big screen as well as a rambunctious game of ping pong.

Home office - craftsman home office idea in Charleston

These clients were in the second stage of renovating their stylish Tudor when we were approached to help formulate a final design plan for entertainment, technology integration and lighting design and control systems. Although the plan was to implement the final completion of these systems in stages, we needed to prepare the appropriate wiring to accomplish the end goals. We provided a lighting design plan for the areas under construction and some simple control solutions from Lutron and Universal Remote Control. Once the Family room was completed we brought in the BDI Novia A/V Cabinet in Coco stained Cherry. This excellent piece of A/V furniture was just large enough to house the entertainment system along with the homes WiFi router. The A/V system was built around a Denon AVR 3809Ci. Source components consisted of Comcast Cable HD DVR, Samsung Blu-Ray DVD player and an Apple TV. The Apple TV was the primarily used for playing the clients music and sharing their family pictures on the 50” Samsung LED TV. The Samsung Blu-Ray DVD player was designed with an internet application for Pandora Radio which is a great way to experience a wide variety of music by creating sets of personable radio stations. Listing to the entertainment system is a real joy with the Totem Tribe in-wall speakers. These sealed cabinet in-wall speakers are some of the best in the world for a very reasonable price. The Velodyne MiniVee 10 was used as the subwoofer. Panamax surge protection was incorporated for everything including the TV. The Universal Remote Control MX-980 was programmed to operate the primary entertainment system along with multiple audio zones for Kitchen, Dining, Patio, Master Bed & Bathroom through the Aton DLA6 zoned speaker selector and volume controller. Additional MX900 was used to support the master suite control within that area. A Lutron Graphic eye was used in the Dining room to manage all of the lighting scenes while the Family room was controlled via the MX-980 remote and RF replacement wall dimmers. This was a great balance of budget and appropriate user interface options. Client

This bedroom and full bathroom are part of an adventuresome project my wife and I embarked upon to create a complete apartment in the basement of our townhouse. A young couple living in Rochester Hills were unhappy with their living room and dining room space, feeling like they didn’t truly reflect their taste, personality, or lifestyle. So, they came to Horizon Interior Design for help! They wanted new furnishings and décor that matched their taste and would feel more inviting for friends and family, allowing them to host holiday gatherings comfortably. Another issue they had was unused space at the end of their room, which they weren’t sure what to do with, and a severe lack of storage space and spots to display their collection of décor and photos. As a record collector and music lover, it made sense to transform the dead space at the end of their living room into a music lounge area with two lounge chairs and a space for a vintage record player. We also incorporated Irish wall art and an ottoman tray from their home city in Ireland. Drawn to the simplicity of mid-century modern design, we added lovely pops of color into the space with a bright rug, chairs, and pillows. We also added a beautiful set of bookcases with closed storage to flank the fireplace and add more display space. We also added an extension dining table, sectional, and accent chairs to accommodate large family gatherings. Now the space perfectly mirrored this couple and their tastes.

Recently one custom contacted us to make a custom media credenza for his wonderful characteristic home, he designed this credenza, it combines modern style and a lot of classic details. We knew this is going to be a great centrepiece once finished, but to achieve the high quality result, it’s going to be challenging. This credenza is including 5 sets of top and bottom media cabinets, a large sold wood plank with 5 podiums on both top and bottom matching these cabinets. The plank and legs were made of solid red oak, mortise and tenon jointed, dark stain finished. Cabinets are high gloss white lacquered, they have rounded corner edges and sharp looking front, these cabinets are organizing entertainment devices, speakers, media players etc. all stored in these compartments. The solid wood plank was 12′ long, we did in butcher style panel, which was extremely heavy, needed 3 strong men to move it around. Lots of cuts and works on elegant profiles, all cuts must be precision, very changing but a lot of fun. The finished piece is great! It’s beautiful and elegant, a lot of classic profiles matching the room characters and overall sharp modern looking.
