Blending a modern sensibility with traditional architecture, this garden features a front yard meadow with native grasses (Carex praecracilis) and wildflowers. Poured-in-place concrete pavers in a meandering pattern slow the approach from the sidewalk to the entry. The modestly-sized backyard has been maximized for entertaining with outdoor dining and lounging areas and subtle landscape lighting. Guesthouse - shabby-chic style detached guesthouse idea in Los Angeles

DBK Builders designed and built this property from scratch in 2005 with the original owners. When the property sold to new homeowners, they desired an updated, contemporary interior aesthetic. We were brought in by these clients to work in conjunction with the Interior Designer to execute the updated remodel and design. Some of our interior remodeling work included pulling out the old fireplace and chimney and its finish and installing a new linear fireplace and stone chimney beneath the mounted television; pulling out all the old flooring and replacing with new whitestained oak flooring throughout the whole 7,000 square foot home; replacing all the countertops, cabinets, and appliances in the kitchen, bathrooms, and laundry room. This newly renovated contemporary kitchen is a hub of socializing. An 8-foot long kitchen island with a waterfall quartz countertop increases storage and prep surfaces for cooking. Warm wood elements give a soft touch to the classic white custom millwork. Floating wood shelves give a designer’s touch, allowing special dishes to be put on display. A built-in refrigerator adds to the clean and refined aesthetic.

The primary ensuite features a custom floating vanity complete with a polished quartz countertop and double recessed sinks. Feelings of calm serenity are emulated through the neutral colour scheme and natural elements. Dark stone flooring flows seamlessly into the large walk-in glass shower. This spa oasis is complete with a luxurious black freestanding tub.

Enter into the primary bedroom through a private stairway. The large quilted bed frame faces sliding glass doors that open onto a private balcony with unobstructed views. A walk-through closet offers maximized clothing storage perfect for any couple. An unobtrusive sliding barn door opens to the primary ensuite creating a visual appeal. The warm grey carpet creates a comfortable and relaxing environment.

An open-concept layout optimizes space and functionality. Combined kitchen and dining areas are perfect for hosting larger gatherings, while the adjacent sliding glass doors blurs the line between indoor and outdoor living. The space is bright and inviting featuring recessed ceiling fixtures, a chandelier, integrated under cabinet lighting, and plenty of windows for daylight. Clean lines and simple forms in the kitchen create a classic contemporary aesthetic. Quartz countertops complete with a waterfall edge and matching backsplash eliminates grout and creates a clean and polished look.
