APLD 2021 Silver Award Winning Landscape Design. Galvanized troughs used for vegetables in the side yard. An expansive back yard landscape with several mature oak trees and a stunning Golden Locust tree has been transformed into a welcoming outdoor retreat. The renovations include a wraparound deck, an expansive travertine natural stone patio, stairways and pathways along with concrete retaining walls and column accents with dramatic planters. The pathways meander throughout the landscape... some with travertine stepping stones and gravel and those below the majestic oaks left natural with fallen leaves. Raised vegetable beds and fruit trees occupy some of the sunniest areas of the landscape. A variety of low-water and low-maintenance plants for both sunny and shady areas include several succulents, grasses, CA natives and other site-appropriate Mediterranean plants complimented by a variety of boulders. Dramatic white pots provide architectural accents, filled with succulents and citrus trees. Design, Photos, Drawings © Eileen Kelly, Dig Your Garden Landscape Design

Nutsedge is one of the more prolific and persistant weeds we have here in North Texas. They thrive in compacted, poorly draining soils or beds that are overwatered or have irrigation leaks. If you've had an increasing problem with nutsedge then your soil is probably too compacted and may be staying too wet. For more info on nutsedge visit our ID Guide https://soilsalive.com/resources/identification-guide/nutsedge

Before renovation: compacted soil, exposed tree roots, and poorly defined planting areas contributed to drainage issues and uneven turf conditions. The yard required regrading and underground drainage correction to restore function and structure.

A hardy Ceanothus with pink flowers! Fluffy flowers appear in mid-summer and early fall, and will produce attractive red seed capsules. This is an extremely drought-tolerant plant that will struggle in poorly drained soils.

A tired landscape with poor soil and lacking some privacy, was updated. A Large tri colored Beech tree was added to the front yard to screen the front of the house from the street.
Foundation plantings were added.

Before renovation: an informal stepping stone path with compacted soil and inconsistent grading contributed to poor drainage and unclear circulation. The space required regrading, defined edging, and structured planting to improve both performance and visual order.
