There’s something timeless about a traditional living room—its ability to feel both refined and deeply livable is what makes it such a lasting favorite. In this recent project, we set out to create a space that honored classic design principles while thoughtfully adapting to the realities of modern life—especially in a home shared with two large, beloved dogs.
The foundation of the room begins with color. We selected Sherwin-Williams SW 7741 “Willow Tree” for both the walls and trim, creating a rich, enveloping tone that immediately establishes warmth and cohesion. By carrying the same hue across architectural elements, the space feels grounded and intentional, allowing texture and detail to take center stage rather than contrast alone.
To elevate the architecture, we introduced a series of custom ceiling beams that draw the eye upward and add a sense of structure and craftsmanship. These were complemented by wall and ceiling ogee molding, bringing in a layer of traditional ornamentation that feels both elegant and tailored. The subtle curves of the ogee profiles soften the room while reinforcing its classic character.
Lighting played a key role in enhancing both ambiance and functionality. We incorporated wall sconces to provide a warm, diffused glow in the evenings, creating a cozy and inviting atmosphere. These are balanced by crinkle metal floor lamps, which add a touch of modern texture and visual interest without straying from the overall aesthetic.
At the heart of the room sits a custom-designed sofa—arguably the most important piece in any living space. Given the homeowners’ lifestyle, durability was just as important as beauty. We upholstered the sofa in outdoor-grade Sunbrella fabric, a decision that ensures long-term performance without sacrificing style. The fabric resists wear, stains, and fading, making it an ideal solution for a home with pets while maintaining a polished, tailored look.
Layering was essential in completing the design. A generously sized 9' x 12' area rug anchors the seating arrangement, adding softness underfoot and defining the space. Decorative mirrors were strategically placed to reflect light and create depth, while faux plants introduce greenery without the maintenance—an ideal choice for busy households.
The result is a living room that feels elevated yet approachable, traditional yet practical. It’s a space designed not just to be admired, but to be lived in—where thoughtful material choices and timeless details come together to support both style and everyday life.

A boho-inspired house with an attached ADU (Accessory Dwelling Unit) combines eclectic charm with practical versatility. The open concept first floor of the main house features an array of vibrant textiles and plenty of greenery, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. Earthy tones and natural materials, such as wood and rattan, dominate the interior, while colorful, patterned accent walls. The spacious layout is enhanced by a cozy breakfast bar in the kitchen and a stylish wet bar in the dining room, allowing for a seamless flow between living spaces. A gas fireplace, framed by artisanal tiles and surrounded by comfortable seating, adds warmth and serves as a central gathering point. Conveniently located off the kitchen is a functional laundry room, designed to blend with the bohemian aesthetic while providing essential utility.

This master bathroom renovation turned out beautifully! The marble tile is super shiny, sleek and clean look. The massive rain shower head, in the walk in shower, is very inviting. In many Parisian apartments, the bathroom may feature a unique and iconic fixture known as an "applique." This is a wall-mounted light fixture that is often made of brass or other metal and features an adjustable arm and shade. Appliques are a common feature in many Parisian apartments, and they are often placed above the bathroom mirror to provide ample lighting for getting ready in the morning. Despite their simple design, appliques are a beloved and essential element of many Parisian apartment bathrooms, embodying the city's commitment to both style and practicality in its design and architecture.

Who wouldn’t feel at home in this beautiful eat-in kitchen? The open layout, classy white cabinets, and the sunshine streaming through the window combine to form a kitchen that’s functional and welcoming—the kind where you can easily imagine the delightful odors of fresh herbs and fragrant spices mingling with the laughter and chatter of friends and family. This design takes advantage of natural sunlight by pairing a large window with a light color scheme that makes the space bright and airy. No detail has been overlooked, as evidenced by the glass hexagon backsplash that serves as an accent. The interlocking glass tiles create a lovely pattern of varying neutral tones that gives just the right amount of energy to the space. The cabinets are equally as tasteful, finished with an elegant crown molding. The gray cabinet island with white cabinets creates a stylish two-tone look and adds a splash of contrast, and the spacious island includes both an impressive cooktop and a bar—adding more seating and extra workspace.
Of course, the countertop is an essential part of any kitchen, but it’s especially important to choose the right one in a design that includes such a large work surface. The kitchen countertop has to look good—after all, it’s the element that ties the rest of the design together—but it also needs to be a functional surface that can handle the tomato sauce or red wine spill, whatever might be on the kids’ sticky fingers, and the wear and tear of everyday use. A quartz kitchen, like this one, doesn’t have to sacrifice its looks to be practical. This luxurious white quartz countertop with delicate, swirling gray veins ties the color palette together and glitters in the sun—but it’s also a durable work space. The engineered stone used here is a Calacatta Verona Quartz, one of many choices that Sky Marble offers as part of our extensive quartz selection. Calacatta Verona Quartz has all the classic beauty of marble, doesn’t require ongoing maintenance, and can stand up to many, many years of family dinners or cocktail parties. And it’s an excellent choice for this kitchen’s color scheme, maximizing the natural lighting and seamlessly uniting the gray of the island and the white of the other cabinets.
Altogether, this contemporary kitchen style strikes the perfect balance between elegance and warmth. At Sky Marble in Sterling, VA, we can help you find just the right look to make your kitchen ideas for make your new build or renovation project a similar success.

Mudrooms are practical entryway spaces that serve as a buffer between the outdoors and the main living areas of a home. Typically located near the front or back door, mudrooms are designed to keep the mess of the outside world at bay.
These spaces often feature built-in storage for coats, shoes, and accessories, helping to maintain a tidy and organized home. Durable flooring materials, such as tile or easy-to-clean surfaces, are common in mudrooms to withstand dirt and moisture.
Additionally, mudrooms may include benches or cubbies for convenient seating and storage of bags or backpacks. With hooks for hanging outerwear and perhaps a small sink for quick cleanups, mudrooms efficiently balance functionality with the demands of an active household, providing an essential transitional space in the home.
