California Closets of MichiganThis room serves almost every purpose including wardrobe storage, desk space, and of course a vertical Murphy Bed for guests. The contemporary space provides a fun pop of red accent door fronts. And also has a mirror back panel, and black countertop serving as a mini vanity.
"Beautiful cabinetry, finishes, and shelving transform a space into a comfortable sleeping area when needed. A well-designed wall bed respects the aesthetic and primary purpose of the room, allowing it to seamlessly serve two or more functions. Our standard configuration, this vertical system is more like a traditional bed and allows the user to have access to both sides of the unit."
Gayler Design BuildA beautiful, functional, large corner walk-in shower now sits at one end of the primary bathroom. The shower walls were designed with large format beige tile and include a functional shower bench and brushed nickel shower fixtures.
For privacy purposes, the water closet was moved behind a single frosted glass door—its effect also added visual interest to the room.
TOMHILL STUDIOSalvaged pumpkin pine wood from a floor in the home was saved, striped, and re purposed in the principal Bedroom of the home. The existing nail holes and varying board sizes were quirky and charming and paid homage to the age and history of this home.

BriannaWardThe goal for this project was to design a space that empowers girls and provides a sense of community among its context. The design formalizes the informal by emphasizing the spaces in-between, derived from the happenstance moments that occur between formal spaces throughout the site.
The multi-purpose hall consists of angled rammed earth and CSEB walls, which vary in thickness to allow for inhabitation and framed views. The interstitial spaces created between the walls allow for occasional meetings between girls, teachers, and community members who would not normally interact. These interstitial entryways vary in size and program, facilitating not only separate circulation between the primary and secondary school girls but also freedom of choice and therefore empowerment.
