With nearly 14,000 square feet of transparent planar architecture, In Plane Sight, encapsulates — by a horizontal bridge-like architectural form — 180 degree views of Paradise Valley, iconic Camelback Mountain, the city of Phoenix, and its surrounding mountain ranges. Large format wall cladding, wood ceilings, and an enviable glazing package produce an elegant, modernist hillside composition. The challenges of this 1.25 acre site were few: a site elevation change exceeding 45 feet and an existing older home which was demolished. The client program was straightforward: modern and view-capturing with equal parts indoor and outdoor living spaces. Though largely open, the architecture has a remarkable sense of spatial arrival and autonomy. A glass entry door provides a glimpse of a private bridge connecting master suite to outdoor living, highlights the vista beyond, and creates a sense of hovering above a descending landscape. Indoor living spaces enveloped by pocketing glass doors open to outdoor paradise. The raised peninsula pool, which seemingly levitates above the ground floor plane, becomes a centerpiece for the inspiring outdoor living environment and the connection point between lower level entertainment spaces (home theater and bar) and upper outdoor spaces. This television is connected to the home's hub of smart technology, and is capable of receiving satellite programming, streaming audio/video via tablets and smartphones throughout the home, DVD/Blu-Ray movies shared throughout the home, as well as media and content stored on the home's network via network attached storage (NAS). Sound is managed through the TV itself, or via the zone audio system, with local speakers located in the ceiling throughout the home, and pictured here. This was a complete transformation that incorporated a brick Cape Cod into a stunning modern home. It offers two-family living with a separate dwelling. This high-ceilinged home presented us with one primary challenge: to outfit the two-story wall of windows in the living area in a way that would provide light control while preserving the incredible water view. Motorized Hunter Douglas Screen Shades were the perfect solution, as they could be programmed to lower or raise according to solar altitude at any given time of day. Drapery panels compliment the height of these expansive windows and softly frame the view. This home also presented opportunities for slipcovers, top treatments, and Norman custom plantation shutters.

The mHouse features ASPECTA FIVE in Washed Concrete. Carbon provides a smooth, neutral, yet striking foundation. It is also warm and comfortable under foot. ASPECTA FIVE is a no-wax floor that is easy to clean. Tiles can be replaced if need be. 100 percent virgin vinyl; 28 Mil wear layer and 3.2 mm gauge thickness; Ceramic Bead finish. Commercial 25-year non-prorated wear warranty and 10-year labor warranty. ASPECTA FIVE uses non-phthalate plasticizers and is the first resilient flooring to achieve NSF/ANSI 332 Platinum certi cation. For over four decades, the San Francisco Decorator Showcase has raised more than $17 million to benefit the San Francisco University High School Financial Aid Program. This year, neither pandemic nor wildfire stayed its organizers from bringing the event to fruition. On Saturday, the 43rd Annual San Francisco Decorator Showcase opened to the public virtually, after public-health orders delayed the event’s original April opening date. This latest edition celebrates West Coast talents while highlighting the wares of high-end sponsors such as The Shade Store, Waterworks, Circa Lighting, and Kohler. While the linear, unadorned furniture and fixtures certainly put the “modern” in Regan Baker’s Modern Mediterranean kitchen and breakfast nook, the installation also pays homage to 1920s-era kitchens. The cabinetry recalls freestanding pieces, marble countertops, and natural brass finishes that will wear with age. Notably, the cabinets’ verdigris color provides instant patina.
