Hi Friends!
I’m sooooooooo excited to share our first ever kitchen makeover with you!! Do you like Fixer Upper? If so, you’ll probably enjoy this kitchen makeover. It started back in June with the Interior Design phase. Ann hired me to be the interior designer for her dining room and entry way. The week we finished the entry way, she stopped by our store and said, “what room would you like to design next?”. I felt weird about telling her a room needed a makeover but she promised not to have hurt feelings! So I jumped at the idea of redoing her kitchen! She has a small kitchen but I knew we could breathe new life into it and make it a fun place to have friends over. Ann had other people give her quotes to redo the kitchen but they wanted to rip walls down and make it a major renovation project. Ann didn’t go for it and loved that I wanted to keep the original shape and size, but give it new life again.
To share the pictures of the kitchen after the remodel wouldn’t be the same without showing the before pictures.
Let’s start with the fridge wall, shall we? I didn’t like the placement of the fridge or that the island was all wood. You’ll see in the next few pictures that there is very little kitchen cabinet space so I wanted to make the island look like the rest of the cabinets and add exposed shelving above it. I sent Ann three different design ideas for the kitchen but my favorite design was one that included all retro style appliances from Big Chill. With such a small room, a retro design could incorporate fun appliances. I was elated to find out that she wanted to go with the retro appliances plan!!!
We also added white shiplap to the bottom half of the wall to add even more texture to the space.
I wanted to make the fridge the focal point of the room so I moved it to the middle, then put the island on the left and built exposed shelving to go above it. We also added LED lights under each shelf to brighten up that corner.
Let’s move on to the wall with the stove. The stove needed to be replaced, but I felt like this space also needed more storage. Here it is before:
Storage was tricky because behind the butcher block was a heater that couldn’t be covered. We decided to build a cabinet that looked like a counter but with metal on the bottom to let the heat out but still give her work space and built a custom cabinet to also provide more storage.
Scroll back up and take a look at the door to the left of the stove. The rest of Ann’s house has beautiful mahogany doors and I wanted these to match so we stripped off all the paint, sanded them down and stained them to match. I love the timeless look that gives this kitchen. Refinishing the doors was probably Johns least favorite part of this renovation. Now check out the difference!
Moving on to the sink section. The dark color of the cabinets made this space feel small. The doors and drawers were really basic so John added decorative trim to make it seem more modern and high end. Here’s a close up on those:
John also build the counter top from scratch using solid maple. That was probably the hardest part of the remodel. Not the install, but the build itself. It was definitely worth it though!
We went with a GE retro dishwasher because we wanted white. The hardware is all from Restoration Hardware. What would a kitchen makeover be without a farmhouse sink anyway??
The rug added another deign element that made the kitchen fun and fresh. The tile is from Lowes and we went with a dark gray grout. Since the windows look out to her back yard, I wanted to skip on curtains and leave it open and sunshiney.
Ann already had this antique coffee grinder and I definitely wanted to incorporate it into the kitchen design. Isn’t it awesome?!?

In March, we delivered 28 pallets of Rebel Supreme Fescue on the lawn of this historic building. Now it is thriving from the recent May showers and the promise of warmer weather. Nestled along the serene shores of Lake LBJ in the distinguished Kingsland Ranch, this Showcase Builders masterpiece stands as a testament to timeless luxury. Collaborating with Jerome Rugen of Delineations, the contemporary farmhouse design seamlessly blends with the tranquil surroundings. Boasting 6 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms within its expansive 6,757 square feet, the home invites residents to indulge in an array of specialty rooms, including a sauna, movie room, man cave, bar, and a charming bunk bedroom. This lakeside haven, with its thoughtful design and exclusive features, promises an unparalleled lifestyle that beckons you to stay.

This home was entirely re-conceived to create a garden level owner's suite with a revenue suite above. The original character of the 1940's interior was enhanced with selective widening of dining and hall doors to create an open feeling, while leaving cove ceilings and hardwood floors intact.
The owners suite is "low step" from the south facing terrace and "no step" from the north garden patio. The former, small garage opening seen in the before photo is replaced with a bump out creating a high-ceilinged alcove living room expansion with skylight and deep, pine trimmed sills. Uniquely transitional, the interior provides exce;;ent light and ventilation with custom touches that surprise.

The Banbury residence is a contemporary masterpiece, artfully melding sharp architectural lines with the softness of nature. Its façade, a study in contrasts with dark, rich brick and bright, expansive windows, allows the interplay of light and shadow to define its character. As evening falls, the home radiates warmth, with interior lights casting a welcoming glow against the twilight.
Inside, the living space is a statement of modern elegance. A sleek kitchen boasts high-end finishes and state-of-the-art appliances, set against a backdrop of hexagonal tilework and brilliant, integrated lighting. The bathrooms echo the home's luxurious essence, with clean lines, sophisticated fixtures, and a spa-like atmosphere.
Outdoor spaces offer tranquility and beauty, from the meticulous landscaping to the inviting fire pit gathering area—perfect for intimate evenings or grand entertaining. The Banbury is not just a dwelling but a celebration of contemporary living, promising both comfort and unparalleled style.

Timeless and transitional, this mudroom-kitchen addition was designed for maximum functionality and beauty. Every inch of this new space brings a luxurious feel with the promise of durability for everyday life. A brand new kitchen with full overlay cabinets and an accent blue island amplifies storage and drop zone areas. Herringbone backsplash with gold hardware and deep sapele wood floating shelves decorate the space with simple, yet endearing designs. Placed in view of the kitchen, the bar has a mirror backsplash with blue cabinets to tie into the kitchen island. With two efficient and separate spaces, the laundry room creates a perfect work zone with black fixtures and the mudroom keeps everything tucked away in style. A brand new powder room with fun blue-patterned tile to bring an element of play into the first floor.

French-Inspired Elegance, Head to Toe — Whole-Home Design & Renovation | Wrightsville Beach Area, NC
Some homes are designed to be admired. This one was designed to be lived in beautifully. A stunning white brick colonial exterior with black shutters, a columned arched portico, dark wood double doors, and a bluestone walkway sets the stage before you ever step inside. The promise the exterior makes, the interior keeps — at every single turn.
The kitchen is the kind of room that stops people in their tracks. Crisp white cabinetry with decorative molding, a custom painted range hood, and white quartz countertops create an all-white foundation that feels both timeless and fresh. Two crystal chandeliers hang above the island and kitchen table, and the arabesque mosaic backsplash in soft gray and white ties the palette together with quiet pattern. Ornate corbel legs anchor the island, while embossed French-style upholstered chairs bring softness and texture to the eat-in space. The adjacent butler's pantry doubles as a bar, with ornate oval-mullion glass cabinet doors, a built-in wine refrigerator, and the same signature backsplash tile running through.
The dining room is a showstopper in its own right. A custom ceiling treatment featuring scalloped ogee plaster molding creates an architectural frame that rivals the chandelier below it — a grand crystal fixture suspended from an ornate ceiling medallion. Tufted white dining chairs with scalloped backs and nailhead trim surround a dark espresso table, while tone-on-tone white damask wallpaper adds depth without interrupting the monochromatic palette.
The living room exhales. Pale blue-gray walls and a coffered ceiling with white molding create a serene, layered backdrop for a curved gray tufted leather sofa, custom blue and white botanical drapes, white built-in bookshelves, and a beautifully detailed fireplace mantel. Every piece was chosen to feel collected and considered.
The primary bathroom carries the same elegance: an ornate cartouche-shaped polished nickel mirror, crystal wall sconces, white shaker cabinetry, marble tile, and polished nickel fixtures throughout. The powder room features the same white damask wallpaper as the dining room, picture frame wainscoting, a pedestal sink, and a beveled Venetian mirror — small but completely unforgettable.
Outside, the home extends beautifully with a screened porch featuring an outdoor fireplace, TV, motorized screens, and white outdoor furniture. The covered outdoor kitchen has a custom range hood, dark stone countertops, white painted brick, and easy access through French doors. Crystal door knobs with polished nickel rosettes appear on every door in the home — a detail that, once noticed, tells you everything about how this project was executed.

This design is in a house that almost didn’t happen.
After two decades of cherished memories within its walls, the decision to sell their comfortable, albeit aging, home and embark on the ambitious journey of building their dream house felt like a natural progression for the homeowners..
Their current house, a testament to years of family life, had served them well, but the vision of a custom-built sanctuary, tailored to their every desire, had long captured their imaginations. With floor plans finalized and the lot secured, they confidently listed their established home, anticipating a smooth transition to their future home. However, the real estate market, it seemed, had other plans. Almost immediately after their listing went live, a wave of instability swept through the local market. Multiple offers, which initially seemed promising, began to unravel for various reasons, leaving the homeowners in a state of mounting frustration and doubt.
Each failed negotiation chipped away at their optimism, leading them to confide in their builder that they were seriously considering withdrawing from the new house project altogether. It felt as though their dream was slipping through their fingers, a beautiful vision that might remain just that – a dream. Just as they were steeling themselves to pull their current home off the market, a ray of hope emerged.
A remarkable buyer, seemingly out of nowhere, submitted a robust and appealing offer. The timing was uncanny, a lifeline thrown at the eleventh hour. With the offer now ratified and the wheels of their existing home's sale finally turning, the couple’s focus shifted back to their dream home. The builders, who had patiently weathered their wavering commitment, were now on track to complete the project. And so, in May of 2025, the keys to their meticulously crafted dream home were finally handed over. The following month, the homeowners joyfully moved into their new sanctuary, a testament to their perseverance and the unexpected turn of events that ultimately made their vision a reality.
