The existing space was over compartmentalized and was never going to function properly as a place to cook and entertain friends. The new design involved removing an extra entry point & created all the zones necessary for fine entertaining while overlooking the vineyard.

The Abraham Knowlton House (c. 1725) was nearly demolished to make room for the expansion of a nearby commercial building. Thankfully, this historic home was saved from that fate after surviving a long, drawn out battle. When we began the project, the building was in a lamentable state of disrepair due to long-term neglect. Before we could begin on the restoration and renovation of the house proper, we needed to raise the entire structure in order to repair and fortify the foundation. The design project was substantial, involving the transformation of this historic house into beautiful and yet highly functional condominiums. The final design brought this home back to its original, stately appearance while giving it a new lease on life as a home for multiple families. Winner, 2003 Mary P. While the layout was functional, the kitchen lacked proper storage. Dated bleached oak cabinets and laminate tops were replaced by shaker style cabinets in a soft white and a quartz countertop in Cambria's "Brittanica". Porcelain flooring in an up-to-date rectangular format form the foundation for this light and bright kitchen.

The client had a finished basement space that was not functioning for the entire family. He spent a lot of time in his gym, which was not large enough to accommodate all his equipment and did not offer adequate space for aerobic activities. To appeal to the client's entertaining habits, a bar, gaming area, and proper theater screen needed to be added. There were some ceiling and lolly column restraints that would play a significant role in the layout of our new design, but the Gramophone Team was able to create a space in which every detail appeared to be there from the beginning. Plaza 400 is a premiere full-service luxury co-op in Manhattan’s Upper East Side. Built in 1968 by architect Philip Birnbaum and Associates, the well-known building has 40 stories and 627 residences. Amenities include a heated outdoor pool, state of the art fitness center, garage, driveway, bike room, laundry room, party room, playroom and rooftop deck. The extensive 2017 renovation included the main lobby, elevator lift hallway and mailroom. Plaza 400’s gut renovation included new 4’x8′ Calacatta floor slabs, custom paneled feature wall with metal reveals, marble slab front desk and mailroom desk, modern ceiling design, hand blown cut mirror on all columns and custom furniture for the two “Living Room” areas. The new mailroom was completely gutted as well. A new Calacatta Marble desk welcomes residents to new white lacquered mailboxes, Calacatta Marble filing countertop and a Jonathan Adler chandelier, all which come together to make this space the new jewel box of the Lobby. The hallway’s gut renovation saw the hall outfitted with new etched bronze mirrored glass panels on the walls, 4’x8′ Calacatta floor slabs and a new vaulted/arched pearlized faux finished ceiling with crystal chandeliers and LED cove lighting.

A large master bath designed by the team at Studio 76 achieves a beautiful balance between form and function. Well-made custom woodwork with medallion design surround the freestanding soaking tub by MTI. Two separate vanity areas are very well lighted with mirror sconces in bronze finishes and the bath chandelier provides ambience on a vaulted ceiling. Painted cabinets complete with decorative bun feet have Italian marble surfaces with Kohler ice-spun glass vanity sinks. Brizo faucetry is trimmed in gold and a custom border tile was installed to accent the room's shape. Custom frameless shower doors add elegance to this master bath renovation.

Situated within a one-acre lot in Austin’s Tarry Trail neighborhood, the backyard of this existing 1933- vintage historical house was underutilized. The owners felt that the main drawbacks of the existing backyard were a general disconnection between each outdoor area and a general lack of relationship to the house proper. Therefore, the primary goal of the redesign was a scheme that would promote the use of the outdoor zones, with the pool as a centerpiece. The first major design move was to frame the pool with a new structure as a backdrop. This cabana is perpendicular to the main house and creates a clear “bookend” to the upper level deck while housing indoor and outdoor activities. Under the cabana’s overhang, an integrated seating space offers a balance of sunlight and shade while an outdoor grill and bar area facilitate the family’s outdoor lifestyle. The only enclosed program exists as a naturally lit perch within the canopy of the trees, providing a serene environment to exercise within the comfort of a climate-controlled space. A corollary focus was to create sectional variation within the volume of the pool to encourage dynamic use at both ends while relating to the interior program of the home. A shallow beach zone for children to play is located near the family room and the access to the play space in the yard below. At the opposite end of the pool, outside the formal living room, another shallow space is made to be a splash-free sunbathing area perfect for enjoying an adult beverage. The functional separation set up by the pool creates a subtle and natural division between the energetic family spaces for playing, lounging, and grilling, and the composed, entertaining and dining spaces. The pool also enhances the formal program of the house by acting as a reflecting pool within a composed view from the front entry that draws visitors to an outdoor dining area under a majestic oak tree. By acting as a connector between the house and the yard, the elongated pool bridges the day-to-day activities within the house and the lush, sprawling backyard. Planter beds and low walls provide loose constraints to organize the overall outdoor living area, while allowing the space to spill out into the yard. Terraces navigate the sectional change in the landscape, offering a passage to the lower yard where children can play on the grass as the parents lounge by the outdoor fireplace.
