This post-war, plain bungalow was transformed into a charming cottage with this new exterior detail, which includes a new roof, red shutters, energy-efficient windows, and a beautiful new front porch that matched the roof line. Window boxes with matching corbels were also added to the exterior, along with pleated copper roofing on the large window and side door.

In our Contemporary Bellevue Residence we wanted the aesthetic to be clean and bright. This is a similar plan to our Victoria Crest home with a few changes and different design elements. Areas of focus; large open kitchen with waterfall countertops and awning upper flat panel cabinets, elevator, interior and exterior fireplaces, floating flat panel vanities in bathrooms, home theater room, large master suite and rooftop deck.

As a conceptual urban infill project, the Wexley is designed for a narrow lot in the center of a city block. The 26’x48’ floor plan is divided into thirds from front to back and from left to right. In plan, the left third is reserved for circulation spaces and is reflected in elevation by a monolithic block wall in three shades of gray. Punching through this block wall, in three distinct parts, are the main levels windows for the stair tower, bathroom, and patio. The right two-thirds of the main level are reserved for the living room, kitchen, and dining room. At 16’ long, front to back, these three rooms align perfectly with the three-part block wall façade. It’s this interplay between plan and elevation that creates cohesion between each façade, no matter where it’s viewed. Given that this project would have neighbors on either side, great care was taken in crafting desirable vistas for the living, dining, and master bedroom. Upstairs, with a view to the street, the master bedroom has a pair of closets and a skillfully planned bathroom complete with soaker tub and separate tiled shower. Main level cabinetry and built-ins serve as dividing elements between rooms and framing elements for views outside.

The vaulted ceiling and clerestory windows in this mid century modern master suite provide a striking architectural backdrop for the newly remodeled space. A mid century mirror and light fixture enhance the design. The team designed a custom built in closet with sliding bamboo doors. The smaller closet was enlarged from 6' wide to 9' wide by taking a portion of the closet space from an adjoining bedroom.

Taragano Design & Build completed this midcentury kitchen remodel
in Danville, California.
The window behind the sink is the point of the room. It opens
fully to the patio, which turns the counter into a serving ledge
and puts the person washing dishes in the middle of whatever is
happening outside. In a climate where the back yard is usable
eight or nine months a year, a fixed window there would have been
the more conventional choice and the worse one.
That opening also determined the cooking wall. With the sink
committed to the window run, the range went to the perpendicular
wall under a canopy hood, which pulls heat away from the open
window rather than pushing it toward the seating. The two zones
sit at right angles with the island between them, so the cook
turns rather than walks.
The island is kept short on purpose. A longer one would have
reached toward the family room and closed the sight line to the
fireplace and dining area. Holding it back keeps the kitchen and
living space reading as one room, which is the reason the wall
came out in the first place.
Overhead, a skylight was set into the vault on the family room
side, where the ceiling pitches away from the exterior glazing
and daylight would otherwise fall off.
Rift white oak slab cabinetry with a painted island in teal,
quartz counters and waterfall edge, vertical stacked tile
backsplash, over existing red oak flooring.

The awning windows in the kitchen blend the inside with the outside; a welcome feature where it sits in Hawaii.
An awning/pass-through kitchen window leads out to an attached outdoor mango wood bar with seating on the deck.
This tropical modern coastal Tiny Home is built on a trailer and is 8x24x14 feet. The blue exterior paint color is called cabana blue. The large circular window is quite the statement focal point for this how adding a ton of curb appeal. The round window is actually two round half-moon windows stuck together to form a circle. There is an indoor bar between the two windows to make the space more interactive and useful- important in a tiny home. There is also another interactive pass-through bar window on the deck leading to the kitchen making it essentially a wet bar. This window is mirrored with a second on the other side of the kitchen and the are actually repurposed french doors turned sideways. Even the front door is glass allowing for the maximum amount of light to brighten up this tiny home and make it feel spacious and open. This tiny home features a unique architectural design with curved ceiling beams and roofing, high vaulted ceilings, a tiled in shower with a skylight that points out over the tongue of the trailer saving space in the bathroom, and of course, the large bump-out circle window and awning window that provides dining spaces.
