Custom reclaimed log bed with bent blackened steel side tables. Photography by Manolo Langis Located steps away from the beach, the client engaged us to transform a blank industrial loft space to a warm inviting space that pays respect to its industrial heritage. We use anchored large open space with a sixteen foot conversation island that was constructed out of reclaimed logs and plumbing pipes. The island itself is divided up into areas for eating, drinking, and reading. Bringing this theme into the bedroom, the bed was constructed out of 12x12 reclaimed logs anchored by two bent steel plates for side tables.

Home design - country home design idea in Boston

A cozy reading corner is enveloped in soft natural light created by the solar shades. They also help to preserve the custom fabric on the chair and ottoman. Katherine re-purposed a small down-filled comforter with a custom cover to make a cozy throw to curl up in. Chair and ottoman: Kravet. Reading lamp: Circa Lighting. Side table: Ballard Designs

Giana Allen Design - created these bed nooks as a cozy option in a loft where the sloping roof line made an area in a room that otherwise would have gone unused. The accent color creates an intimate feeling and highlights the space. Custom homes, furniture and design all done by Allen. www.gianaallendesign.com

To eliminate an inconsistent layout, we removed the wall dividing the dining room from the living room and added a polished brass and ebonized wood handrail to create a sweeping view into the living room. To highlight the family’s passion for reading, we created a beautiful library with custom shelves flanking a niche wallpapered with Flavor Paper’s bold Glow print with color-coded book spines to add pops of color. Tom Dixon pendant lights, acrylic chairs, and a geometric hide rug complete the look.
