With the Indigo bedroom Quax offers a wide range of furniture with a long-lasting use in mind. Without any worries because where necessary these pieces of furniture were tested by internationally recognized authorities for EN-716 for cots and EN-12221 for changing tables. In order to achieve this Quax uses durable materials, for example no chipboard but high-density Mdf, well-known for its intrinsic stability and strength. These boards meet the strict E1-standard regarding formaldehyde emission. Do not forget that natural wood too contains formaldehyde. We support durable forestry and ask our suppliers to submit the PEFC and FSC certificates. Special care also goes to the furniture fittings. Only reputable suppliers provide us with, among others, quality slides for the drawers and reliable connecting techniques, including particular attention for eccentrics, necessary for connecting parts which have a great supporting power. Quax does not use self-rotating screws because they obstruct the dismantling and re-assembly of furniture. The lacquer finish also gets our full attention : we only work with international quality suppliers such as Akzo Nobel and not with local producers. These suppliers are responsible for the certificates for their products, for example EN 71-3 with attention for the migration of harmful components. Design also plays an important role in the business philosophy of Quax. For the Indigo bedroom for example the bars are milled out in the Mdf board, which does not only contribute to the fancy nature of this range but also to the sturdiness of the side-frames, not comparable to tradional bars. The undercarriage has been given special attention and is made of solid beech, which makes colour differences possible, depending on the tree’s habitat. They reflect the richness of the natural product and must therefore be regarded as normal. The frame’s finish with a quality oil may emphasize these shade differences. The charm of the natural patina is the guarantee of the natural product. The cots can be converted into bench, something which your toddlers will certainly appreciate. The series includes cots 120x60 cm, 140x70 cm with optional bedrail and beds 200x90 cm, a 3-drawer chest with optional changing extension, one-, two- or three-door wardrobe, a night table, a desk and a bookcase. Our clients immediately recognized the potential of the home located in a highly sought-after section of Allentown. The dated kitchen needed significant rethinking but our clients knew it could be turned into something beautiful and inspiring. And, indeed, they were right. Busy professionals with an active social life, our clients wanted an inviting space to host both intimate dinner parties and large social gatherings. With this in mind, we worked to reimagine the flow of traffic from one room to another. Extraneous walls and a desk inconveniently positioned in the middle of the main kitchen thoroughfare needed to be removed and tight workspace aisles and narrow passageways demanded widening to help alleviate the problem. In addition to the kitchen’s flow concerns, the dark and dated space needed brightening. The wall between the kitchen and family room was opened up to unite the two spaces allowing more light into both rooms. Windows were also added at the sink wall so the room could be flooded with bright morning sun, while also offering a beautiful view of the park below. All-white cabinetry was selected to help reflect the additional light. An unfortunate challenge of expanding the windows meant there were fewer wall cabinets to store dishes. We turned to the island where we installed large dish drawers featuring wood pegged interiors. We also relied on wall-to-counter cabinets for additional storage to help keep the room clutter-free as appliances were neatly tucked behind doors. A new, built-in pantry was also added. The finished kitchen unites traditional with today and elegance with comfort to ensure perfection. As a designer, you recognize many trends, but my passion is my only drive. What is Home? Its where children come home from school. It's also where people have their gatherings, a place most people use as a sanctuary after a long day. For me, a home is a place meant to be shared. It's somewhere to bring people together. Home is about sharing, yet it's also an outlet, and I design it so that my clients can feel they could be anywhere when they are at Home. Those quiet corners where you can rest and reflect are essential even for a few minutes; The texture of wood, the plants, and the small touches like the rolled-up towels help set the mood. It's no accident that you forget where you are when you step into a Master-bathroom – that's the art of escape! There's no need to compromise your desires; it may appeal to your head as much as your heart.

Photography by Kae Photographers Architects Cecilia and Alfred Quezada purchased the Mill Valley Lovell House in 1995 which became their realized passion project for the next 14 years. Built in 1953, the original 1,100 sq. ft. structure was a mid-century shed-roof “box” in extreme disrepair. Building upon the underlying modern potential, the architects embarked on a series of three distinct additions and remodels with a commitment to honor the intention and materiality of the original 50’s design. The majority of the house was rebuilt in 1998 with an addition of an opposing complimentary form separating the main structure by a steel and glass breezeway canopy. In 2006, the Kitchen and Den expansion was completed utilizing a translucent roof to capture the ever-changing daylight. The Lovell House has been recognized as one of the prominent modern homes in Mill Valley and has inspired many to follow their dreams of building modern in a town with little precedence. Recently, the Quezadas sold the house and have moved on to the next “labor of love”.

Remodel of an existing bathroom in San Francisco. The client wanted an updated bathroom that kept some of the original details and used modern materials in a way that recognized the time period the home was originally built, like the use of penny tile and adding crown molding.
