When this Tuxedo NY homeowner decided on a 2-tone, modern design, she knew she needed to recruit a professional remodeler to bring her vision to life. Finding a way to transform the whole space while still getting the luxuries she wanted like a farmhouse sink and Cambria countertops in Cambria's Torquay was no small feat. We refaced in Suede Grey and Satin White, a popular trend that adds instant interest. The mosaic blended countertop of glass and stone ties the color scheme together. New metal bar stools button up the look and add another texture. With a nod to industrial modern design, this kitchen is a show stopper!

The client wanted a stylish and contemporary open space with harmony flowing through the kitchen, dining and living area…not an easy task. We recruited the painters for a fresh new colour palette of greige and turquoise. We selected a new neutral-toned area rug for living room, and a colourful turquoise rug for the dining area. We assisted the client in all material selections, finishes, furniture, cushions, colours and the open plan floor plan and design. The entire living space is uncluttered, cohesive, and casual…exactly what the clients asked for.
Materials used:
Sherwin Williams paint, Fireplace stone wall, stained oak floor, neutral area rugs, original artwork, wood coffee and end tables, contemporary sectional, turquoise accent chair, turquoise leather stools

dale cohen designstudio has gathered her favorite artists, designers and purveyors in an installation at the Sag Harbor architectural landmark The Watchcase Project by Cape Advisors. Populating a Watchcase Townhouse with vibrant visual practitioners, Dale has composed a series of rooms that speak to the exquisite quality of space, light, and scale in the Watchcase Project. She has selected a group of artists mostly from the East End.
She has responded to the rooms, staircases, and walls by applying kinetic color and imagery with a contemporary take. And Dale recruited Annie Coggan and Caleb Crawford to do their own room they’ve named the Melville Room. They gathered a series of their work, a practice called Didactic Decorative Objects and inspired by the Sag Harbor Whaling Museum. Researching the work of Herman Melville, who speaks of Sag Harbor is his epic Moby Dick.
The art installation is accompanied by design greats, FritzHansen, Vitra, vintage Knoll and Swedish design company Overman, contemporary and vintage rugs by Doris Leslie Blau, mohair rug by Sacco, fabrics by Fischbacher for Stark and Knoll Luxe, and pillows from Maharam, all to make a dynamic conversation in a domestic setting.
This is not typical beach-house decor.

The client wanted to add a lot of colour and energy to the bland beige on beige loft. She also wanted harmony flowing through the kitchen, dining, and living area…not an easy task. Despite a wall of windows, the condo felt dark and dreary (see before photos). We produced a light plan for track lighting mounted on the cement ceiling and recommended several lamps, including the corner dramatic red fabric lamp. We recruited the painters for a fresh new colour palette of bright white and blue with hits of colour distributed throughout the open-plan concept. We selected a new deep red area rug to add interest to the dining area. The area rug also anchors and defines the dining-room. We assisted the client in all material selections, finishes, custom cushions and window treatment for privacy in the daylight hours; white sheers allow the light in, but also a level of intimacy. They also soften and balance out the rough concrete structures. The entire living space is uncluttered, brighter and far more interesting than it was when she moved in.

Busy with a new home, working full-time and raising a young child, Elaine knew her large, white kitchen required a team effort.
Luckily, she researched examples of all-white kitchen designs as inspiration.
“I knew what I wanted my kitchen to look like, but I needed more customization and ideas for the space that would appeal to my aesthetics as well as our busy lifestyle,” she says.
Therefore, she recruited IKD’s design team.
“I wanted someone who had lots of experience designing IKEA kitchens. IKD fit the bill after seeing the results of their work online from past customers. They had the experience and knowledge to manage all the finer details of the IKEA kitchen options. IKD helped me focus on the big picture by helping my stay organized and keep my sanity!”
She adds that initially she was tempted to do the install herself, but knew she didn’t have time.
“Although I’m handy, I worried that it would take me twice as long because I would have to figure out how to install it first. I ultimately went with IKEA’s installers. IKEA’s installers were extremely professional and did an excellent job,” she says.
This was a good choice as the installation for her IKEA kitchen – particularly with its minimalist kitchen theme – faced a few unique obstacles.
“It was tricky trying to coordinate everything; from ordering the new appliances, scheduling the kitchen installers and [coordinating with] my general contractor who did the electrical and plumbing. It was rather time consuming and nerve-wracking,” she says.
She adds that the installers were able to customize all cabinets and pieces to fit around the appliances for a seamless look.
“They made the installation seem easy but it was definitely not,” she says.

In this transitional farmhouse in West Chester, PA, we renovated the kitchen and family room, and installed new flooring and custom millwork throughout the entire first floor. This chic tuxedo kitchen has white cabinetry, white quartz counters, a black island, soft gold/honed gold pulls and a French door wall oven. The family room’s built in shelving provides extra storage. The shiplap accent wall creates a focal point around the white Carrera marble surround fireplace. The first floor features 8-in reclaimed white oak flooring (which matches the open shelving in the kitchen!) that ties the main living areas together.

Ben is an experienced DIYer although he hadn’t ever done an IKEA kitchen design before.
“I wasn’t familiar with the product line, nor how to get started with the process. The design we came up with was largely our design, and we spent countless hours researching the door fronts, and of course decided on the VOXTORP doors in Walnut from IKEA. We find IKEA offers great quality for the money and we love the neat customization options.”
Ben does admit that he and his wife often second guessed their design decisions, however. Therefore, they recruited IKD to help them develop a layout that would work stylistically and functionally for their needs.
“Having an IKEA design expert from IKD provide additional insight was incredibly helpful for us to move forward though the process,” he says.”But as an avid DIYer I felt this was well within my realm to complete.”
And the design certainly was!
In fact, Ben says the installation process was seamless. He does mention that the plumbing and electrical was relocated to accommodate the IKEA kitchenette layout though.
“The overall experience of building the boxes was straight forward. Once you get the hang of doing one, they almost all go together about the same. It was a rewarding experience seeing everything come together,” he notes.
