An organic warm natural modern update for a primary bath that used to be dark and dingy. This new spa inspired bright open primary bathroom now functions better and helps to reduce stress and restore the homeowners after a long day. The materials used were green glass subway tiles, marble looking porcelain tiles, engineered quartz countertop, hand blown glass chandelier, and a custom designed floating walnut vanity.

This bathroom remodel balanced cost-efficiency with modern style by preserving the existing layout while introducing thoughtful upgrades throughout. A new vanity cabinet was installed, topped with a sleek quartz countertop and contemporary undermount sinks—replacing the dated oval top-mounted ones. The existing bathtub was retained to reduce costs, but the surrounding walls were resurfaced with matching quartz for a clean, cohesive look. Finishing touches included updated lighting, modern mirrors, and two floating shelves that added both function and flair. Custom tile work tied the entire space together, creating a polished and timeless aesthetic.

These modest homeowners were looking for drainage solutions, low maintenance plantings, and an entertainment space they could enjoy outside. Mowing the grass had been a pain in the past, so with this design we decided to remove it entirely. Instead, more native grasses were utilized to take in water and reduce erosion. A new fence modernized and updated the space and allowed the interior of the backyard to be leveled providing more opportunities for design elements like a floating bench and custom built fire pit.

Example of an eclectic bathroom design in Los Angeles

This single family home sits on a tight, sloped site. Within a modest budget, the goal was to provide direct access to grade at both the front and back of the house. The solution is a multi-split-level home with unconventional relationships between floor levels. Between the entrance level and the lower level of the family room, the kitchen and dining room are located on an interstitial level. Within the stair space “floats” a small bathroom. The generous stair is celebrated with a back-painted red glass wall which treats users to changing refractive ambient light throughout the house. Black brick, grey-tinted glass and mirrors contribute to the reasonably compact massing of the home. A cantilevered upper volume shades south facing windows and the home’s limited material palette meant a more efficient construction process. Cautious landscaping retains water run-off on the sloping site and home offices reduce the client’s use of their vehicle. The house achieves its vision within a modest footprint and with a design restraint that will ensure it becomes a long-lasting asset in the community. Photo by Tom Arban

The principles of minimalism carried over into the master bathroom, where large tiles were utilized in the shower to reduce grout presence and enhance ease of cleaning. Wall-mounted faucets continued the clean and uncluttered aesthetic, minimizing items on the counters. The master bathroom design prioritized simplicity and functionality, creating a space that exuded a sense of calm and order.
