This wet room designed bathroom provides zero threshold access for bathing. The Ann Sacks teal glass deco tiles provide a visual guide for the shower area while adding a beautiful punch of color. A grab bar shampoo shelf by Invisia and an extra long second grab bar by Moen facilitates the transfer from a wheel chair or other mobility assistance devises to the shower seat (and toilet, behind the camera view). The handheld shower on an adjustable slide bar provides flexibility for bathers who are either seated or standing, as well as space for caregivers. The combination clothes washer/heat pump dryer makes good use of the space under the stairs as well as proximity to water supply pipes and waste drains that service the bathroom. The 2" x 2" floor tiles in the shower area provide additional traction to mitigate the potential for slips and falls.

Inspiration for a country kitchen remodel in Atlanta

Our overall design concept for the renovation of this space was to optimize the functional space for a family of five and accentuate the existing window. In the renovation, we eliminated a huge centrally located kitchen island which acted as an obstacle to the feeling of the space and focused on creating an elegant and balanced plan promoting movement, simplicity and precisely executed details. We held strong to having the kitchen cabinets, wherever possible, float off the floor to give the subtle impression of lightness avoiding a bottom heavy look. The cabinets were painted a pale tinted green to reduce the empty effect of light flooding a white kitchen leaving a softness and complementing the gray tiles. To integrate the existing dining room with the kitchen, we simply added some classic dining chairs and a dynamic light fixture, juxtaposing the geometry of the boxy kitchen with organic curves and triangular lights to balance the clean design with an inviting warmth.

Part of a second-storey addition to this 1906 family home, this luxurious bath is part of the new top-floor primary suite. As the homeowner’s first-ever ensuite, the goal was a spacious, relaxing escape with stand-alone soaker tub and walk-in shower, incorporating colour and texture for a mid-century modern feel.

The first historic renovation project in Nantucket to receive LEED Gold status. The project was given a Grand Award by Eco Home Magazine in July, 2011. The project included: Restructuring the foundations to align and stabilize the structure in addition to providing for a new insulated crawl space; A 260 square foot addition for a kitchen, bath, and new entry; New cedar shingles, roof shingles, and restored historic windows; The house met the strict regulations of Nantucket's Historic District. On the inside, LEED Gold certification was met through: High R-value insulation and reduced air leakage; High efficiency heating, air conditioning, plumbing fixtures, and appliances; Low-emission paints and finishes as well as a clay wall finish; Using reclaimed materials from the original house and other sites. We remodeled this kitchen with tall white oak cabinets and an island with a white perimeter. To make it feel larger and more open we reduced the number of upper cabinets and created a focal point around the hood with decorative lighting. We used performance fabric on the swivel stools and a Brimfield art find above the stove!

Perched on a forested hillside above Missoula, the Pattee Canyon Residence provides a series of bright, light filled spaces for a young family of six. Set into the hillside, the home appears humble from the street while opening up to panoramic views towards the valley. The family frequently puts on large gatherings for friends of all ages; thus, multiple “eddy out” spaces were created throughout the home for more intimate chats. Exposed steel structural ribs and generous glazing in the great room create a rhythm and draw one’s gaze to the folding horizon. Smaller windows on the lower level frame intimate portraits of nature. Cedar siding and dark shingle roofing help the home blend in with its piney surroundings. Inside, rough sawn cabinetry and nature inspired tile provide a textural balance with the bright white spaces and contemporary fixtures.
