We had a clear goal for the master bathroom: create a spacious, custom-designed shower, complemented by elegant finishes and modern conveniences that would replace the outdated fixtures and layout. The new shower was designed to be both spacious and luxurious, with new plumbing, including a drain and valve trim kit, ensuring functionality matched the shower's aesthetic appeal. Essential to the shower's design were the installation of a recessed wall niche, a tile bench, and a frameless tempered glass enclosure with obscure glass, enhancing the shower's spaciousness and privacy. Smooth White 8" x 24" ceramic tiles grace the shower walls, while the Calacatta Vecchia Penny Mosaic adorns the shower flooring and wall niche, seamlessly blending elegance with functionality. Equally thoughtful updates transformed the vanity area, with Waypoint Painted Linen cabinets, and sleek Jeffrey Alexander Boswell handles, radiating timeless elegance. This setting is enriched by a Pro Cloud quartz countertop, a standard rectangle undermount sink, and a Delta Trinsic faucet. Along with new lighting and a regular framed mirror, the combination of these elements brings depth and brightness to the space.

The coffee table and mantel are styled with an eclectic mix of objects, books and paintings. Obelisks, small statues of metal and wood, a classic Chinese ceramic jar in blue, yellow and pink, and a late 19th Century oil portrait blend with the Chinese lamps, assorted custom pillows, and piles of design books to richly layer the room. This DIYer installed the deck tiles using DekTek’s Sister Joist System for elevated decks. It’s a basic install using regular deck framing 16” o.c. The modification for our deck tiles compares to standard wood/composite deck framing, is to just add a sister joist (for example a 2x4). You leave a little space in between the main joist and sister joist for the water to drain. And then before you glue the tiles down, you just add a mechanically fastened boarder on the outside perimeter of the deck to lock the tiles in. Then you glue the tiles down with a polyurethane construction adhesive to prevent the tiles from rocking.

This bathroom was built as a wet room with all surfaces being waterproofed. The homeowner is in a wheelchair but wanted to be able to care for himself independently. The floors slope toward the drain for proper water drainage and the sink is wheelchair accessible. Grab bars and a hand held shower were installed for easier bathing.
