The original all-wood cabinets were in great shape, so we kept them (always reuse what you can) and sprayed them white to open the space. 2 x 8 subway tiles are traditional but have a slightly more contemporary feel. Absolute black granite counter tops break up all the white, and add a horizontal line that visually widens the room.
