Having moved from a smaller home into a much larger space, our clients needed help picking out finishes like flooring, paint colors and lighting. We then went on to furnish and accessorize all their main living spaces and bedrooms in a style that was both modern yet timeless. We incorporated the work of independent local artists to create a layered home that represented our clients and their style. We are so proud of the haven we’ve created!

We had this home on South Mountain freshly painted throughout. We were able to use some of our client's existing pieces of furniture, along with many new pieces. Each room is distinctly different from the next. Our client favors a contemporary style, which we were able to accomplish in the master bedroom and formal living room. The family room decor incorporates African family heirlooms to represent our client's heritage.

We choose to highlight this project because even though it is a more traditional design style its light neutral color palette represents the beach lifestyle of the south bay. Our relationship with this family started when they attended one of our complimentary educational seminars to learn more about the design / build approach to remodeling. They had been working with an architect and were having trouble getting their vision to translate to the plans. They were looking to add on to their south Redondo home in a manner that would allow for seamless transition between their indoor and outdoor space. Design / Build ended up to be the perfect solution to their remodeling need.
As the project started coming together and our clients were able to visualize their dream, they trusted us to add the adjacent bathroom remodel as a finishing touch. In keeping with our light and warm palette we selected ocean blue travertine for the floor and installed a complimentary tile wainscot. The tile wainscot is comprised of hand-made ceramic crackle tile accented with Lunada Bay Selenium Silk blend glass mosaic tile. However the piéce de résistance is the frameless shower enclosure with a wave cut top.

Pink, blue, green and yellow, as well as textures and animal prints complement the look of this home. I used mostly performance fabrics and faux leather in the dining room. The old china cabinet is a vintage piece that has stayed in the family and passed through generations and travelled across many cities. The sword atop the cabinet is from India passed on by the client’s grandmother. The snake rug and the yellow light represents the uniqueness of design here. The juxtaposition of the house being young and vibrant while deeply rooted in family treasures and heirlooms.

Greenwich Village, NYC terrace garden. In the heart of the West Village, this 10 x 30 terrace is meant to evoke the client’s passion for a bucolic homestead on a ranch. The space overlooks a courtyard and is surrounded by other luxury condos. Thus privacy was a key component for the client, which is achieved by the planting of switchgrass along the perimeter — evoking the prairie grassland. Two Serviceberry trees (Amelanchier canadensis) create additional privacy, their perfect alignment representative of a farmstead orchard, with the rustic pergola providing either structure or hidden sanctuary (by closure of the roman shade) for al fresco dining, cocktails and hammock lounging. this master suite renovation represents the completion of a whole house remodel initiated several years ago. the space had been intended as a master suite but left incomplete for budgetary reasons. the pending arrival of the family’s second child prompted the move to complete. Schwartz and Architecture’s master plan had organized a strong spatial arrangement, packed with program. building Lab, along with the client, developed all of the materials and detailing. we also, of course, built it.
bL picked up on prominent themes from the earlier project, developed and re-worked them with materials specific to the context. from a geometric standpoint, cleanness, simplicity and continuity drove decisions. headers were eliminated from doors allowing continuous ceiling planes interrupted only by slots for sliding doors. flush detailing of tile and sheetrock and sliding glass doors that converge to form an inside corner are but a couple examples of many challenging details dedicated to precise alignments and reveals. from a material standpoint the wood provides tactile softness, frosted glass and lighting maximize depth, while tile and Caesarstone maintain solidity and groundedness. details such as the Caesarstone wrap of the vanity and medicine cabinets offer surprise and engagement through unlikely material application.
projects of such density and richness in materials and detail are somewhat rare. we are grateful to our clients for the opportunity and challenge.

This silver wall-mounted table was the perfect addition to this hallway design of ours. Contrasting with the passionate red accents and abstract artwork, this look truly represents the unique style of our client.

Another view of the Todd Kitchen upon completion. This is a custom tile mosaic that was designed to represent this client's vacation home in the Bahamas.

Our client was looking for a unique countertop to fit their tropical/beach theme. Our talented sales representative Tim was able to create this stunning piece out of resin. In this photo you can see the details in the ocean waves!

This kitchen remodel for a former Denver Broncos player and his family suits them just fine. The custom designed backsplash is backpainted with a design the client choose to represent their family -- the 3 dashes behind the range, one for each family member -- as well as effectively break up the long line.

My clients love fantasy and role playing. They requested a pair of peacocks in a Tree of Life, to represent themselves and the balance between light and dark. The result is this impressive front door stained glass piece of art.

The feel and tone of this entire project was to represent a more sophisticated elegance with a touch of WOW factor. The end result was a true essence of our client and he completely loves the look.

Finding away to extend this clients kitchen was done by designing this wooden, waterfall island. It gave their space something that represents art, yet provides an island for stools, and a drop down table for chairs. The dining area became a space where 10 can comfortable sit and eat together.
