This small home for empty-nest owners of Showcase Renovation represents the epitome of collaboration between architect and builder. Compact single level living with a panoramic lake view was the catalyst for design. Primary living spaces align under a vaulted profile that draws light from above, while ceiling heights and floor levels vary to introduce drama and intimacy in just over 1300 square feet. Perfectly embedded on an acre of land overlooking a pond, in the heart of Willow Bend of Plano, this dated, traditional home got more than a complete facelift. The wife is a “farmer’s daughter” and could have never imagined having a home like this to call her own one day. Finding a 15’ dining table was a tall task… especially for a family of four. Using a local craftsman, the most gorgeous white oak table was created to host everyone in the neighborhood! The clients told a lot of stories about their past and children. The designer realized that the stories were actually treasures as she incorporated their memories and symbols in every room. She brought these memories to life in a custom artwork collage above the family room mantel. From a tractor representing the grandfather, to the Russian alphabet portraying the roots of their adopted sons and some Cambodian script, there were meanings behind each piece. In order to bring nature indoors, the designer decided to demo the exterior wall to the patio to add a large folding door and blew out the wall dividing the formal dining room and breakfast room so there would be a clear sight through to the outdoors. Throughout the home, each family member was thought of. The fabrics and finishes had to withstand small boys, who were extremely active. The use of outdoor fabrics and beautiful scratch proof finishes were incorporated in every space – bring on the hotwheels.

This dwelling with its two building complexes is situated on a wooded plot of land in São Paulo. It is both sophisticated and representative, and features integrated spa areas, a home cinema and a gourmet kitchen. The inhabitants can enjoy the calm surroundings, with numerous old trees, on three floors, but particularly when they are outside in the spacious free areas and at the pool. The striking, protruding flat roof provides shade and protects the residents from the rain – a major advantage in an area with constant temperatures that has just as much rain as it does sun.

The room's strongest design feature is its relationship with the outdoors. A generous bay of windows brings the surrounding mature landscape directly into the bathroom, transforming the view into an important part of the experience. Daylight washes across the pale surfaces and enhances the sense of openness, making the space feel more like a private wellness suite than a conventional bathroom. The freestanding sculptural tub is positioned directly beside the windows, creating a deliberate moment of relaxation and emphasizing the connection between bathing and the landscape. Its smooth, organic silhouette contrasts beautifully with the architectural geometry of the room, while the polished floor-mounted faucet introduces a refined contemporary detail. The shower is treated as an architectural volume rather than simply a functional enclosure. This represents a farmhouse chic design to accommodate the homeowner's vision for a fresh, clean and modern take on the farmhouse style kitchen. A beautiful mix of custom made cabinets by Woodland were used to create a unique look. The perimeter is done in an Ivory paint on Maple & the island features a Nutmeg stain on Quartersawn Oak. This project represents an increasingly popular type of project - combining 2 bedrooms into a single master suite. The house is a 1910 craftsman, with 4 bedrooms on the second floor. Typical of older homes, the master bedroom had a very small bathroom, and very little closet space. The owners decided to sacrifice an adjacent guest bedroom to create a spacious master suite. The new rooms include a large bathroom, with hers and his vanities, separate toilet room, custom tile shower and soaking tub. The extra space also allowed us to install a luxurious custom walk-in closet. Design Criteria: - Increase size and utility of closet space. - Create a large, luxury bathroom with distinctly separate hers/his spaces.
