The Canada House on Trafalgar Square in London England has been undergoing a planned revitalization for the last two years. The project, expected to be completed by November 30, 2014, will renovate and refurbish Canada House and connect it to the adjacent building at 2-4 Cockspur Street, which will also be upgraded. We were awarded the opportunity to build a unique table that would represent the province of Manitoba in the Canada House as its revitalization initiative to represent Canadian artists and designers to the world. The table itself was built from a 200+ year old salvaged Manitoba Oak tree cut on our sawmill to retain the live edges. We carefully selected pieces to incorporate some beautiful natural cracks where Walnut butterfly keys were incorporated for structural integrity. The stain was carefully custom mixed in-house to match the other surrounding furnishings in the room the table is destined to be in. The electrical power data modules we’re sent to us direct from the Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada and counter sunk into the table for a flush design. We built the custom steel leg and leg structure accommodating for the heft weight of the tabletop. Lastly the table was packaged according to ISPM 15 certified packaging for oversees export requirements. The developer, his wife, and the agent were there and discussing how Cantoni was going to finish out one of the units, and so we all started talking,” Chris explains “They asked if I wanted to meet with the designer from Cantoni, and suggested I could customize the home as I saw fit, and that did it for me. The IL-1 Beta table was a unique and personalized birthday gift for renowned scientist Charles DInarello. We were commissioned to build a custom gift to represent three defining elements of his life; the refining of IL-1 Beta, one of his first monumental scientific achievements; his love of gardening and outdoor living spaces; and his enthusiasm for entertaining guests and fitting as many people around his table as possible (both figuratively and literally). We combined these three defining elements, and designed an outdoor table, a courtyard centerpiece, that would represent IL-1 Beta and enhance the scientist’s garden parties. One of the most important and challenging design aspects of the IL-1Beta table were the pedestal legs. The recipient of this beautiful gift, Dr. Dinarello, loves entertaining guests, introducing strangers, and encouraging conversation, so we designed a table that could sit many and then add more. The pedestals are each composed of seven pieces of wood that had to be assembled in a precise order for strength, stability and beauty. The table stands delicately with just the tips of the pedestal legs touching the ground, like a couple mid-waltz, poised and strong and light on the dance floor.

The concept of this project is inspired by the Philippine's longest mountain range and known as the backbone of Mother Nature's protection, the Sierra Madre. n this project, Sierra and how she stands still after many years will be depicted on the pocket garden. The design will include various plants that are perfect for indoor setting giving a benefits to user's, protecting them from being sick and improve their overall. The use of rustic design with a touch of Filipino sense is used to depict the years of Sierra protecting us, Filipinos from the dangers of winds and typhoons, but still being naturally beautiful like how rustic style represents represents a natural, rough, aged, and casual design style.
