The Conrad house, also named "Tres Jolie" (beautiful trees) is nestled within 32 majestic live oaks on 10 acres of historical land near the town of Berwick, LA. Once a camp site for both Union and Confederate troops, this home site lavishes in historical memories. Built in 2002, Tres Jolie was designed to resemble a plantation home of the 19th century. Therefore it was only fitting that I chose the West Indies style for this home. Historically, for it's presence in that era. Climate wise, for passive solar design. Presence wise, the roof shape resemble the trees in which embrace it.

Mont Blanc is quarried from a bedrock quarry in Brazil. It resembles marble in appearance but is much harder and more durable. Because of this, it can be used for kitchen countertops without having the scratching and etching issues experienced with marble. Mont Blanc has a creamy white background with grey and taupe veining.

My clients purchased a grand home on a spectacular waterfront setting, but the interior felt dark and drab. Our challenge was to turn the existing home into a high end Hampton-style residence without major construction. We choose to focus on color, contrast and texture, changing almost every surface in the home and reversing the contrast to make the home light and airy. We invested the construction expense on elements crucial to style and function. Removing a row of out of scale upper cabinetry in the kitchen and replacing it with 3 double hung windows expands the view to 180 degrees and floods the room with light. To create symmetry and balance in the kitchen, we moved the cooktop and centered the sink. The wine cellar entry opened awkwardly into the kitchen and there was no pantry, so we modified the wine cellar and moved the door for better flow, allowing for a large pantry. On the opposite end of the great room, we balanced the fireplace with cabinetry and tall wainscoting. The floors were stained dark espresso while all other trim and cabinetry went a bright white. It took 14 tries to get the perfect wall color – a pale beige/color reminiscent of sand. The blue and white furniture and details pull the entire space together and creates a sophisticated yet casual feel.

Inspired by the sugar plantation estates on the island of Barbados, “Orchid Beach” radiates a barefoot elegance.
The master wing is entered through double doors into a foyer adorned by a stunning art piece. To the left, a bedroom overlooking the bayou and his and hers oversized master closet. To the right is the master bath and orchid conservatory.
The suite includes paneled master bedroom walls, vaulted ceilings, and walnut floors. The bedroom windows resembles a rounded stern of an old sailboat with a full-length seat overlooking the terraced pool deck and bayou.
The bath features a full-size hydrotherapy tub below a large picture window looking out to a mature plumeria. The exquisite chamfered wall tile flows through the shower, and perfectly complements the runway of stunning marble penny tile insert on the floor.
The master bath opens to reveal the orchid conservatory and meditation space. The orchid conservatory features four walls of lattice with oval portholes, an outdoor shower, lovely seating area to enjoy the beautiful flowers, and a relaxing bronze Cupid fountain.
The challenge was to bring the outdoors in with the Orchid Conservatory while maintaining privacy.
It is a dream oasis with an indulgent, spacious spa-like feel.
