The cantilevered informal sitting area hangs out into the back yard. Floating aluminum steps create a path from the house to a raised ipe deck and down to the yard. The deep corrugations of the metal siding contrast with the vertical v-groove siding of the original ranch house. The floating steel and glass cube adds a dramatic interior volume and captures the view of the landscaped back yard.

The living space and bedroom are one, but clever furniture placement creates different areas within the compact open plan. The restored brick wall is an original chimney in this building from the mid-1800's.

Hunter Douglas Designer Screen Roller Shades in fabric Indian Basket, col. Willow Stick, 5% opacity. In this home office, the client requested simple shades that would cut sun glare when needed without obstructing the view. We choose a screen fabric that had a 5% opacity which, as you can see, allow for a nice view thru but, when lowered, really cuts the glare enough so that the client needn't squint when viewing their computer screen. We decided to forgo the cassette head rail for the minimalist look of a 'reverse roll'.

A Garden room separating garage from house proper. A repurposed tannery bench found and detailed by the architect creates this handsome room. Earthy and elemental materials are selected for the home that reference the barn without directly mimicking it. Wooden members found inside the barn and from other barns bridge ceilings and are used in floors along with rustic slate adding to a sense of simplicity to the farmhouse design.
