KAZE Interior Design Studio designed a home for a family of 5 and their dog. The space needed to be family friendly with the kitchen at its heart. A small corner was set aside for a computer work area and a play corner created right next to the kitchen so that the kids can do their homework without being alienated in a room upstairs. The kitchen has two ovens so that pizzas and a roast can be cooked at the same time. Sofa style seating is also placed close to the kitchen to provide a relaxed area where the kids can play games and do craft activities. The dining area is situated at the very end as this is only used when guests are invited to dine. The large TV and playroom and kids’ rooms upstairs are hardly used as all social events take place downstairs. In the parent’s room, a walk in closet and bathroom is made “en-suite” and the shower is pushed out to the terrace so that talking a shower in the morning is like waking up in a resort. Wood is used as a material throughout the entire house and in that sense, it reflects the Nordic touch and idea of our heritage.

When a young professional couple approached us to decorate the main floor of their brand new modern townhouse in Port Coquitlam, we were very excited. Having moved from a Gastown condo, the couple was eager to infuse this suburban location with a funky yet sophisticated downtown vibe. They were also looking for a neutral backdrop with some hits of colour and asked us to incorporate wallpaper. The statement artwork that we selected above the fireplace set the tone for this project. We started with a pair of sleek neutral leather sofas to maximize seating in the small living space and layered them with a variety of toss pillows in blues, teals & turquoise then added a few pops of orange. We defined the front entrance and dining area with a stunning marbleized grey and white wallpaper by Graham and Brown. The dark wood furniture in the dining area adds contrast and sophistication balancing the dark stained kitchen cabinets opposite. The resulting look is clean, modern and playful. Thought I'd post my modest home theatre project for a small room to help people create one without blowing budgets. Goal was to create a room that is for watch TV, movies and playing games. Room is approximately 14' x 18'. Key challenge was for gaming, i.e. Xbox Kinet and Wii, people's movement may get in the way of the projector. The solution was to use a short throw projector. The Benq 1085ST projector was used and there is < 6' of distance from the projector to the screen. The ottoman is movable and so is the seating (with large low friction pads underneath) to allow rearrange as needed. Room is finished off with acoustic panels (absorption on wall and ceiling with bass traps and diffuser in the back walls). The theatre has Dolby Atmos 7.2.4 setup with 11 total speakers (Front Left, Centre, Front Right, Left and Right surround, Left and Right rear surround, Ceiling front left and right, Ceiling rear left and right, as well as 2 subwoofers. The false wall in the front hides the front left, centre, right and one of the subwoofers.

The goal was to develop statement pieces that not only deliver premium game performance but also elevate the visual ambiance of the home. Featured Products: Contemporary Billiard Table Design Language: A modern reimagination of the classic pool table, this piece features a light oak finish with vertically fluted cylindrical legs, complementing the architectural lines of the space. Materials: Solid hardwood construction with a black felt playing surface, creating a bold contrast. Functionality: Professional-grade playing experience, designed to blend seamlessly into luxury interiors. Modern Poker Table Design Highlights: Upholstered in black leather with integrated chip trays and drink holders, framed by a gold accent trim. The matching fluted pedestal base brings unity with the billiard table. Details: High-density cushioning, suede inner racetrack, and fine detailing for a high-stakes feel in a home environment. Custom Elements: Tailored dimensions and finishes to match existing decor. Interior Integration: Both tables are positioned within a space defined by marble textures, rich wood tones, and ambient lighting. The furniture aligns with the high-end finishes of the environment — including natural stone walls, herringbone wood floors, and contemporary art-inspired panels. Client Outcome: The result is a cohesive, high-design game room that balances entertainment with sophistication. These pieces not only serve as functional game tables but also as artful additions to the living space.

Design Firm - Lee Meier Interiors The patterns, colors and furniture plan all played important roles in this individualistic dining room. Moving the dining table to the back wall rather then the center of the room allowed the opportunity to add a long beautiful banquette with flanking bookcases. I turned the paper to be hung horizontal to get a more modern stripe and that coordinates well with the sheers. The unique dining chairs feature a Malachite patterned fabric with emerald mohair seats while the banquette has many different patterned pillows adding a nice warmth to the room. The two Shagreen bookcases give more space which dining rooms tend to lack to add personalized accessories and frames.

The home owners wanted a place to entertain, play and workout in their 3000 square foot basement. They added a completely soundproofed media room, a large restaurant-like wet bar, glass enclosed workout area, kids play/game space, great room, two bedrooms, two bathrooms, storage room and an office. The overall modern esthetic and colour scheme is bright and fresh with rich charcoal accent woodwork and cabinets. 9’ ceilings and custom made 7’ doors throughout add to the overall luxurious yet comfortable feel of the basement. The area below the stairs is a child’s dream hideaway with a small crawl-thru entry access, toy drawers and lighted reading cove.

The goal for this light filled finished attic was to create a play space where two young boys could nurture and develop their creative and imaginative selves. A neutral tone was selected for the walls as a foundation for the bright pops of color added in furnishings, area rug and accessories throughout the room. We took advantage of the room’s interesting angles and created a custom chalk board that followed the lines of the ceiling. Magnetic circles from Land of Nod add a playful pop of color and perfect spot for magnetic wall play. A ‘Space Room’ behind the bike print fabric curtain is a favorite hideaway with a glow in the dark star filled ceiling and a custom litebrite wall. Custom Lego baseplate removable wall boards were designed and built to create a Flexible Lego Wall. The family was interested in the concept of a Lego wall but wanted to keep the space flexible for the future. The boards (designed by Jennifer Gardner Design) can be moved to the floor for Lego play and then easily hung back on the wall with a cleat system to display their 3-dimensional Lego creations!
