Tucked into the hillsides of Marin, the environment played a predominant role in defining the contemporary yet exotic style of this home.
In the master bedroom, a fireplace adds a cozy design element, while an inconspicuous home theater system can be elegantly tucked away when not in use. In the master bathroom, pebbled stone tile adorn the walls of the double shower that overlooks the hillsides of Marin.
A guest bathroom was designed to compliment the eclectic aesthetic of the home. While in the center of the residence, a spiral acrylic staircase climbs 3 floors acting as a consistent element, tying together the varied yet complementary styles.

The mission: turn an unused back patio into a space where mom and dad and kids can all play and enjoy being together. Dad is an avid video gamer, mom and dad love to play board games with friends and family, and the kids love to draw and play.
After the patio received a new enclosure and ceiling with recessed LED lights, my solution was to divide this long space into two zones, one for adults and one for kids, but unified with a sky blue and soothing green color palette and coordinating rugs.
To the right we have a comfortable sofa with poufs gathered around a specialty cocktail table that turns into a gaming table featuring a recessed well which corrals boards, game pieces, and dice (and a handy grooved lip for propping up game cards), and also has a hidden pop-up monitor that connects to game consoles or streams films/television.
I designed a shelving system to wrap around the back of a brick fireplace that includes narrow upper shelving to store board games, and plenty of other spots for fun things like working robotic models of R2D2 and BB8!
Over in the kids’ zone, a handy storage system with blue doors, a modular play table in a dark blue grey, and a sweet little tee pee lined with fur throws for playing, hiding, or napping gives this half of the room an organized way for kids to express themselves. Magnetic art holders on the wall display an ever-changing gallery of finger paintings and school crafts.
This back patio is now a fun room sunroom where the whole family can play!

Having a thoughtfully designed playroom, outfitted with the right items, can make all the difference for keeping your kiddos content while doing the most important work of childhood—play! And what better way to play than with an arcade classic like this authentic Skee-Ball alley.

Interior designers are calling too. When designing a home for Poppy and Cara Delevingne, Beverly Hills architect Nicolò Bini wanted to create a tropical feel by blurring the lines between indoor and outdoor, a role rattan was born to play. “Poppy wanted something very Hollywood Regency, a California dream home—light, airy, fun,” says Bini. “So I thought that rattan would be the perfect match for her.” Bini, a longtime fan and friend of Schwartz’s, had never before taken a client to Harvey’s warehouse. But when he brought Poppy at the end of a long day of touring furniture shops, “she just absolutely flipped out,” he says. The pieces she ended up buying not only found their way into a central part of the home, but onto the cover of AD last September.

Foam Floor Mats 5/8 Premium
-- "These 5/8 Premium mats are great. I used them to convert our vacation home garage to a 'Boys Club' for our 5 grandsons. They added protection for play activities and insulation from the concrete floor. We had a water leak and they were so easy to take up and dry out the floor. I even used them to line the foundation perimeter instead of painting it. The pictures say it all. Look how great the ''Great Mats'' made our Game room look!"

The family living in this shingled roofed home on the Peninsula loves color and pattern. At the heart of the two-story house, we created a library with high gloss lapis blue walls. The tête-à-tête provides an inviting place for the couple to read while their children play games at the antique card table. As a counterpoint, the open planned family, dining room, and kitchen have white walls. We selected a deep aubergine for the kitchen cabinetry. In the tranquil master suite, we layered celadon and sky blue while the daughters' room features pink, purple, and citrine.

We all were kids at one point a long time ago. Some of the best memories come from the playground, that is why we set out to build a play set that a whole neighborhood or large family could enjoy. Looking at this huge play set makes us want to be kids again. Available as a do-it-yourself kit or professionally installed.

A place to relax, read and play games and a little office space is how our outbuilding in Mill Valley was described. It added an extra living room and some coveted square footage to a hard to add onto home in a desirable part of town. The outbuilding was placed on axis with the main house, connected by a deck with a view to the yard in between. To keep all the books and games in order, the main room was lined with fin-ply cabinetry. The floor is an engineered wide plank rustic oak. A simple clean burning wood fireplace will provide heat when needed. The outbuilding has the feel of a classic summer cabin, only with better insulation for year round use.

For the Family room in this english basement in Potomac, MD, the family asked for a large TV area for the kids and their friends to play wii games or watch movies, and a bar area with adjacent wine cellar for the adults. The furniture is easily movable, and the cha-cha table on wheels is easy to move away when a spirited game of wii is on the agenda.

Music plays a large role in this basement, which is evidenced by the album covers as well as the guitar. In addition to the stage, lounge and bar, games play a role in the fun for this fully finished basement.
